Hi everyone!

We are planning our first trip to FW in March, and are so excited! We are driving from San Diego! One question (first of many, I am sure!) -- do we really need a golf cart if we are bringing our bikes? Is there bicycle parking wherever we may want to go? We also plan on doing some nighttime activities such as Mickey's BBQ, Hoop-de-doo, and Campfire, etc. so can we bike to those, or take a bus?

The golf carts seem pretty steep at $47/day. What do people use them for, if they bring bikes?

Thanks!!!

You really don't need a cart if you bring your bikes, but it makes it nice to have one. They have lots of bike parking and you can take them to any event at the Fort, or take the bus but if you have bikes it would be better to use them.

I agree, bikes cut out one bus ride anytime you leave your site.

If you're the kind of person (like us) that wants to hit the parks every day, you definitely don't "need" a golf cart. You'll be at the parks most of the day, anyway.

But if you like "chillin" at the campground, you'd end up wishing you got one.

As for the campfire, Hoop-de-Doo, etc., taking the bikes would be fine. Our last trip, we were in the 200 loop. It was easily a walk to the Hoop-de-Doo and a nice little bike ride to the campfire.

P.S.: Tell Phillip Rivers "hey" and we miss him.

Nope don't need a golf cart-but it's FUN if you are hanging around the campgrounds. We usually rent for a day if we're not going into the parks. We do bring the bikes and ride to both pools depending on what loop we're in at each visit. My bike did get stolen last spring break (March) at the settlement (no it wasn't locked up)-:sad1: it wasn't a good bike either. So just be aware. Security said-kids get off the buses tired and they don't want to walk so they "grab" a bike then ditch it in the canals. :headache:

I know Tungpo1 and I are huge golf cart advocates, but only if you really need them. If you have someone with special needs, then yes. However, if all of you are of bike riding ability, keep the bikes and next time get one for the heck of it. We have our own cart and it really makes life easy, however, we go often and live only an hour and 45 minutes away, not across the country! Enjoy your stay! I am already in withdraw and we just got back this past Sunday!

All we take are bikes. You can get anywhere on them (even WL) and the whole place is really bike friendly. We talked about renting a golf cart for one day to get around and check out all the Christmas decorations, but we never did.

Our kids loved the freedom of hopping on their bikes and taking off to the playground or wherever~they couldn't do that on a cart! We also enjoyed the exercise. After a week of eating at Disney, we need all the help we can get!

Golf carts are fun, novel for some, and very useful~but not necessary.

Enjoy your trip!

AubernJen~I am so with you! I wanna go baaaaack!!!!!:sad1:

I know, I am trying to find an excuse for a day trip this weekend, but my wallet keeps saying no way girl!:sad1:

stop being so cheap. there's plenty of tent sites available.

I'd pitch a tent in a heart beat to stay at FtW~it's the 12 hour drive to get there that's holding me back

It's not that big a campground. We walk almost everywhere, so, if you have bikes, you will be fine.

You walk almost 5 miles a day in the parks, what's the difference in walking 1/2 a mile more?
