We are planning to visit TL in June. Should I buy water shoes for the fam?

Queenvic princess:

I would, my daughter hurt her foot on the bottom of the pool at Blizzard Beach. The bottom was textured so that it wouldn't be so slippery. I had to buy the water shoes there, and they were EXPENSIVE. Buy them at Walmart before you go. JMHO

We did the opposite. Bought the shoes before the trip and the kids wore them and after half an hour took them off. 13 trips later and we have never worn the shoes.

We always wear water shoes to the water parks. However, I have seen a number of people without them. I personally feel so much more comfortable having my feet covered when walking up and down the steps and on the sometimes hot cement. If you are used to going bare foot, then you may be fine without them. However, I personally would recommend them! :sunny:

We went to TL and were very glad to have water shoes for our kids as the waves would knock the kids right off their feet! They loved it there though!

We've been to BB and TL more times than I can count, and I wouldn't go without them. The first time we went to a water park we didn't use them and the skin on the bottom of our feet was literally shredded from walking on concrete all day. I always wonder how people go without... :confused3

We use them at BB but also when we go to the resort pool. The cement is very hot and DD hurt her foot last trip to BB.
I found some great water shoes at payless. They are $10.00, look like Birkenstocks an :rotfl2: d very bright colors. I love them!!

I don't wear them-- DH does. I will admit that my feet are a little raw after the day is done there. The hot, texturized concrete does do a number on them. However, I can't stand the shoes-- so I go without. DH's feet were so raw the first time-- it really ruined the next few days as they were swollen and all. So, it's watershoes everytime for him.

only 2yo DD wore her water shoes at BB. She did scrape both knees though from falling in the kiddie area. Everyone else had no problems and we were up and down those stairs (actually up since we take the fast way down) a lot. In the first 1/2 hour we were there, DS and I had to have gone up the stairs to Summit Plummet at least three times. We did not have an problems with out feet hurting.

I noticed that a lot of people mention that they wear the water shoes for the sake of keeping their feet from getting scratched up from the concrete. I wear "flips" because (okay, no one laugh - I have a bit of OCD - not kidding either) of the stuff on the ground. I have a really hard time with water parks. DH gets so mad at me because he always wants to go. In the past three years, we have only gone to BB once and have never been to TL. I get totally grossed out with the thought of having to share the same water as other people. I don't like to see things in the water (leaves, hair, etc.) I hate the sight of hair on the ground (especially when it's not my own) and band-aids, dirt, gum, and countless other things.

When we went to BB a couple of years ago I saw people walking into the bathrooms, barefoot!!! I almost threw up. The bathroom floors were wet and had gunk all over the place. People were walking around like it was no big deal while I was pratically gagging.

Now I really want to know, am I the only one that feels this way? I didn't see anyone else mention the reason that I did so it may just be me.

I recommend wearing water shoes to protect from hot concrete. They're also a must for the bathroom. My family wears a neoprene slip on sandal from Nike. They stay on our feet, dry fast but don't feel "too heavy" on our feet. Any other suggestions from people that wear water shoes?

The first time we went to Hawaii we all bought good water shoes- almost like sneakers but with lots of holes. They are really required if you do any hiking down to snorkel on some of the more distant beaches. I discovered how supportive they are and now wouldn't ever think of going to the beach or a water park without them. I can walk for miles in them. Try Landsend or LLbean or Bargainoutfitters.com. The sneaker like ones don't slip around like the slipper sock things you get at Walmart.

We love our water shoes and are very glad we have them. We all have the ones from Lands End and get lots of wear out of them (DD is the only one that has to have new ones as she grows) and feel it's well worth it. If you are trying to save you can usually get them for less than $5 a pair at Wal-Mart. I don't think you'll regret having them when you feel how hot the pavement is or even how rough the bottom of the wave pool is. Have fun.

I was thinking of getting the water 'tennies' from Land End. (They have them at Sears too.) Are they comfy? I thought they might just fell like wearing wet tennis shoes.

I was wondering if water shoes are allowed on all the attractions in the water parks? I have been to water parks where certain rides (high speed slides mostly) don't allow you to wear shirts or water shoes.
Are there any restrictions at BB or TL?
Thanks,
Ed

I'll be visiting WDW 5/24-5/28 and plan to spend 1 day at Epcot and 1 at typhoon lagoon, plus univ studio and island of adventure.

I am already planning my packing and what clothes to take etc. Just occurred to me whether I am 'allowed' to wear my thong bikini whilst at the water-park or whether it would be frowned upon.

It is o.k. here in Miami, but I guess things may be different in other places.

Also, does anyone know how I can go about buying entrance ticket for typhoon lagoon without having to go for the 3 day disney 'plus. ticket?

Just my opinion, but with all of the children at TL and BB, I would not wear a thong. Also, if you intend on going on any of the slides, they even recommend wearing a one-piece b/c of "accidents" caused by the rushing water and high-speed drops.

About the thong, first off, if you have to ask, than you already know the answer. Secondly, is it ever TRULY appropriate to show ones butt to strangers? Unless you are in your own pool, on the topless deck of a Carnival cruise, or in Brazil, why would you think this is okay?
