DO I need to bring car seats?

Absolutely not. I don't know why anyone would want to have the hassle of bringing and lugging around car seats that you aren't even allowed to use on any of the Disney transportation. If, by some odd reason you do have some type of emergency that doesn't require an ambulence, but a cab ride, you can always request a cab with car seats. I would never lug around car seats for my kiddos for no reason.

Very interesting article! Thanks:)

No problem!

I don't know exactly how much of a difference it makes, but it doesn't hurt and it's within the guidelines so I figure why not?! :confused3 If she was over 2, I'd probably say forward facing on the plane would be fine though she'd still be rear facing in the car. Although, I'd feel sorry for whoever sat infront of her because she'd probably kick the crap out of the back of their seat. :)

you never need them, until one of the buses gets in an accident and flips tossing everyone around...

then you will have wanted one, or someone sues due to no seatbelt as was mentioned above.

Have you ever been on a bus at Disney???? There are no seat belts, so there would be no way to secure a car seat, not to metion they aren't even allowed. I'm confused as to the point of your post:confused3

Car seats on the airplane do serve a purpose though. And I'd never in a million years recommend using a car seat from a cab company or renting a car seat from a car rental place. If I don't know the absolute history of the seat, my child isn't being put in it. It's not worth the risk to me.

Our car seat that we travel with is so light weight, it's not a hassle at all. I usually find that traveling with a car seat isn't a hassle for those who understand the the benefits of them.

Well then, count me as one whom doesn't understand the benefits of them
I'm wondering how my kiddos have survived their multiple trips to Disney:confused3

In all honesty, it's great if you personally make the choice for your family to take a car seat to Disney, just for the plane. If it makes you happy, go for it, but OP asked if she needed to, and the answer is no. OP clearly stated that she'd be staying onsite and only using Disney transportation. If it makes you feel better, more power to you, but for me personally, we choose not to, and I can't imagine wanting to do it with multiple car seats (as in the OP's situation.)

We didn't bring a carseat for our 22ish month old simply because other than the airplane, there would be NO use for it, and we weren't going to lug something around the airport that we didn't really need (there's plenty of other stuff for us to carry around the airport :) ). When DD1 was riding as a lap child we used a Baby B'air thing during the flight in the event of turbulence (of course there wasn't any), and I also had her in the Ergo for some of the flight as well with my seatbelt on - the flight attendants didn't have an issue with that and she was sleeping well that way. With 2 kids, we'll have the baby in the Baby B'air or the Ergo and I'm going to get a CARES harness for our toddler, but no, we're definitely not lugging TWO huge carseats around the airport if we don't have to! :) Enjoy your trip!!

we always bring them because we rent a car..once we did magical express and we didn't bring them...but we don't like magical express so that won't happen again.

On our next trip our daughter will be 6 and she is in the 80% for height so I don't think I will bring a booster for her, just a carseat for our 3 year old.

I think if you purchase a ticket for your toddler having a carseat on the plane is a great idea because it keeps them confined and feel comfortable like when they are in a car. I think I will bring mine on the plane for our 3 year old in January.

I've said before that it's rare that something horrible happens on the flight where the difference between having a car seat for a young child and not having a car seat for the young child is a matter of life or serious injury/death. I also stated to the OP that I'd only bring a car seat for the youngest child, which is under 2 years old, so she wouldn't be traveling with multiple car seats. Just one.

Your opinion on if she needs to bring a car seat for her child is no. And that's fine. MY opinion is yes she needs one for her youngest child, and I stated why. I can't tell someone that there is no reason for them to bring a car seat on the plane, because there is clearly a chance (though it may be rare) that it could make a huge difference. I'd hope that rare chance never happens. But if it does and I'm on that plane with my family, I'd like to know that I've dotted all my "i"s and crossed all my "t"s.

More beneficial or not, I prefer her to be rear facing because that's how she rides in the car. Also because she won't be kicking the person's seat infront of her, she'd be kicking her own. And I'd be able to interact with her better since we'd be facing each other.

I was posting the links above because they can not require you to forward face your child on the plane if your child is within the rear facing requirements of the car seat. They also can't make you use the car seat outside of the manufacturers requirements (example: forward facing before 1 year & 20 pounds).

Well I certainly hope you are booking the seat infront of your child with the rear facing seat for a family member! because that person can't recline their seat and that is rude and for no real good reason. If you aren't I hope you are offering them some compensation for not having full use of their seat. When we travel on public transportation it isn't all about what we want but what works for everyone.

I'm not sure if DH or older DD will be sitting infront of them or not, but it doesn't matter. And I'd be offering no compensation. A reclining seat isn't guaranteed when you book your flight, just a seat. And yes, it is for a good reason, do your homework. My child's safety is way more important than another person reclining their seat. If a person needed to recline their seat for a medical or safety issue, then we'd rearrange and make that person capable of doing so, but my child would still remain rear facing in her car seat. I wonder how many people would really choose a reclined seat thats getting kicked by a joyful toddler over a peaceful 2 hour flight with a happy toddler.

:goodvibes

ETA: I'm curious to know if your tone would differ if a child was less than 20 lbs and/or less than a year of age and required to be rear facing in their car seat?

We have always bought DD a seat of her own. It was so much easier for all of us to have her in her own seat for the flight. We have flown from New England to Florida and to Southern CA. While it can be a bit tricky to manage in the airport, DD was safe and happy in her seat on the plane.

There are no seatbelts on ME or any Disney bus.

to the both of you... the OP has an 18mo child... that alone would get a carseat on a plane in my family, regardless if the bus has one or not.

i've been on a disney property bus, not a ME one so i cannot compare. i'm sure I could look at pics to see if there were seatbelts on the onsite buses.

regardless.. my post referenced the fact it was stated there are no seatbelts (i assume ME buses) and tha fact they aren't needed until it flips and someone sues... I'd be pissed to not be able to secure my kids if they needed them... a 7yo and 4yo, then I could see passing on the seats on a plane and that bus, but i'd rather have my kids in their normal carseats/boosters as much as possible.

then again, i'd rent a car so i could escape disney at times...

My response was directed to your post that I quoted that said there was no need for a car seat on the bus until one flipped... -that had nothing to do with a plane:confused3 And no, there are absolutely no seat belts on Disney transportation, and car seats are NOT permitted on ANY Disney bus. So, for you... rent a car, but for the OP (who asked the question) she clearly stated she was only using Disney transportation and to her question, no, no car seats of any kind are permitted on any Disney bus, so yes I still have no idea what the point was to the post about a car seat wasn't needed until a bus flipped:confused3 That really doesn't apply to this thread, since they aren't permitted anyways. If you have issues with Disney's policy, then take it up with them, but that post was completely irrelevant to this thread.

I might be off, but I think maybe wmharley was perhaps saying that if an accident occurs, and people start suing for not being able to use seatbelts/car seats, that they might start putting seatbelts on the buses, and then car seats would be able to be used. :confused3

Putting seatbelts, then carseats on busses will probably never happen. The logistics of it don't make it easy. First to retrofit the buses, then, what is everyone going to do with the carseats when they get to a park, add to all that the extra load/unload to time needed to PROPERLY secure each different seat on the bus. Improperly secured seats can do more harm than good in an actual accident, so would drivers then be required to hook each seat, as they are now required to do with wheelchairs?

:confused3 Not my theory!!! :thumbsup2

Sorry, I should have said that when I quoted you. It wasn't your theory, just an interpretation of a previous post. Again sorry about that, I knew better, but forgot to point it out for others.

I will be taking a car seat for my 2 yo (for the plane), but it's one of those that turns into a stroller when you fold down the wheels and pull up a handle. I haven't used a disney bus before though - will there be enough room for me to bring on this car seat/stroller?
Thanks!

what I don't get is rear facing is needed if you are in a car. Being rear facing is not going to do a darn thing in a plane so to purposefully inconvenience the person in front of you for the sake of keeping your child rear facing just because she's used to it is pretty rude and very inconsiderate.

I'm not purposefully inconveniencing anyone. I'm not being rude, and I'm not being inconsiderate. ;)

You don't have to get it. I do, and that's all that matters.

I agree. There are no seatbelts on city buses here (NYC buses - I bet some are older than I am), school buses, airport trams, etc. There aren't actual studies, I believe, that show seatbelts would be safer (and until these studies are done, nothing will change). I don't see seatbelts on buses in my lifetime.
