We will be checking in at BWV on July 13th for our first trip home as DVC members. Since I have no experience staying in a DVC resort, I was wondering if I need to prepare myself for CMs trying to sell us more points while we are there. We have the right amount of points for both our vacation plans and our budget (referring to annual maintenance fee) and we don't have any desire to buy more points. Will the CMs ask us if we want to add on any points? Are there signs all over the place reminding us about the option to add on points? Are there advertisements in the villa as well?

The main thing is that honestly, and I don't mean to sound rude or mean...we really don't want to be bothered constantly with someone trying to sell us something while we are on vacation. We feel that it would be annoying to constantly be asked if we want to buy more. We didn't buy a DVC membership because a salesperson convinced us, we did our own research and decided it was the right thing for us.

NOPE!!! Unless you make a point to stop and talk to a guide, no one will contact you about DVC (unless your guide calls to welcome you).

We went on our first stay last summer and did go to SSR to meet our guide and tour the models, but that was initiated by us and not him.

Have a great trip! We leave a month from now July 30th for 3 nights at BCV and 3 at BLT. It will be my DH"s first time staying DVC!

Enjoy!!!

Rest easy, don't worry and enjoy your vacation! No one will solicit you unless you choose for it to happen. I was a little apprehensive with my 1st check in years ago, but you will be impressed at how easy and wonderful it is to be welcomed home for the 1st time! Something very gratifying about receiving your DVC Owners packet with all of the perks etc.!

Congrats!

nope.

you might see a sign or 2 at wdw for "disney's best kept secret"....

As others have posted, they will not try to sell you more points. In my case it was just the opposite. We were at SSR and, while my wife made a pit stop, I went over to the DVC kiosk to talk to the person manning it. When I walked up, he greeted me warmly and wanted to know what he could help me with. As soon as I told him I was already a member, his demeanor changed instantly. He answered my questions quickly and looked like he was ready to move on. Even though he was not rude, I could tell he was not near as interested in dealing with me as when I first walked up, so he definitely didn't try to sell me any more points.

We have never had a discussion about an add on while staying at a DVC resort unless we initiated it.

Thanks everyone! I'm glad to hear that it will be a relaxing vacation without having people constantly trying to sell us something!

I would be prepared though for the possibility of a v-mail from your guide. Our guide calls us each time we are down there and just leaves a vmail wishing us a good vacation. No mention of sales or points, just a friendly message. I enjoy the call, makes me feel less like a 'sale' and more like a person. :thumbsup2

I own at BWV and only purchased once, no add-ons. I've never had anyone mention it in person, even when I've gone to DVC events. My guide has only called me 2 or 3 times in 10 years, around the time that they closed the BWV sales center and more points became available for the rooms converted. Never got a voice mail while I was there. My file probably says "unlikely to add-on".

We had always dealt with our sales guide over the phone. So last year when we were staying at the Treehouses at Saratoga we decided to go over and meet him face-to-face. We called and set up the meeting, talked to him for quite awhile, and even with us in his office he never mentioned selling us anything. DH finally asked him if there were any specials available at the time. He told us what all they were selling and what offers they had. I think he was surprised when we decided that we did want to add some more. The only "sale" he made was by recommending we get 100 points instead of 90 (we have 200 at OKW and had 110 at Saratoga - we were going to get 90 to even them out) By going to 100 we got a better offer - so for the initial purchase it was cheaper to get 100 than it was to get 90 (yes, I know we pay maintenance fees on the extra 10 points - oh well). We met with him again this year but didn't buy anything else - DH did tell him to let us know if anything "exciting" came up deal-wise because we might be interested in adding on again. He has never tried to sell us anything

Enjoy our first trip home!!! We have been members at BW since 1997 and have loved every minute of it!
