My family is taking a trip to WDW next month, I have bought the meal dinning plan. We are not the type of people who ussually plan where will be or where we want to eat a head of time. We are more wake up and do what we want type of people. My question is are we going to have a hard time getting into resturants for dinner without reservations.

Any advice would be wonderful.

First of all, welcome to the DIS Boards!!

All the predictions so far have been that this May will be busier than most, so I would suggest making PS's unless you want to take a chance on long waits and maybe even being turned away from some restaurants.

My family usually travels at busy times, and we always make PS's for any sitdown meals that we want to do. We often have seen people without PS's being turned away or told that they will have to wait for 2 hours or more when we've checked in for our PS's and this has motivated us to plan and make PS's for any meals that we want to do.

Sometimes we change our plans when we get there, and we never feel that we are tied down by our PS's. If we decide that a PS doesn't suit what we feel like doing, we simply cancel it. We then usually eat counter service, although we have had luck a couple of times calling and making last minute PS's.

A whole lot depends on which restaurant, what day, and what time. Lots of times you can walk in a restaurant, or just have a short wait. BUt other times there may be no tables at all, or a long wait.
That said, if you don't like planning too far in advance, at least try to make a PS that same day. Nothing worse than walking up to a restaurant hungry and being told no more room--or a 2 hour wait.

Welcome to the DIS!

It really depends on where you want to eat. If you want to eat at Le Cellier, they almost never have room for walk ins, and if they do, there is usually a long wait (unless you get there right at opening). I can usually walk right in at Nine Dragons and Alfredos. So, if you can be flexible about where you want to eat, you should be OK, but if you have your heart set on certain restaurants, make the PS.

We usually don't make PS because we like to play it by ear. This year we are going in June and know it is going to be crowded so we made them. Just called today which is 53 days out and got all the places and times we wanted. It doesn't hurt to call and get them. You can always cancel them later.

A quick 15-20 minutes on the phone and I was done.
