This will be our first cruise. Do I need to bring lanyards to carry our room keys or do we get lanyards from DCL? They have some cute ones for sale on Disney Store online, but I don't want to buy them if I don't need them :)

First time cruisers do not receive lanyards so if you want a one you will need to purchase it. On your second cruise you will receive a lanyard from DCL. :)

I just put the key card in my pocket or camera case.

ETA: Sometimes I have my husband hold it.

We don't really use lanyards either. But if you want them, they also have cute ones at Party City for like $1. The kids loved their princess and mickey ones, even if we didn't let them keep their own cards. :rotfl:

Bring one if you are the type to use one at WDW. Someone will need to have a card to get back in the stateroom door, so if you normally use pockets or rely on DH, you won't really need one. I use one just for easy organization - cards and license stay in it on excursions. It's easy to see my hot pink lanyard in beach bag, in room, etc... Kids and DH always know where to find their cards if they need them.

If you have kids, buying them ahead of time and making it a gift when you get to the terminal is a fun little idea.

If any of you do pin trading, you'll want to have lanyards. The CMs in the shops always have pins and there's usually an officer pin trading event on each cruise.

I don't like having anything hanging around my neck, so I did not use a lanyard. Instead, I bought a small phone case with a wristband in one of the gift shops on board. It was the perfect size for a Wave phone and a couple of cards. It was like this one, but navy blue with the DCL logo on it.

I love this idea! I was always worried I would drop the wave phone. Did it fit in the case okay?

It fit perfectly, and so does my iPhone! I took it everywhere on the cruise -- so easy to just put the strap around my wrist or throw in it the beach bag for excursions and CC. Best $16.95 I spent!

On our first cruise we had them. I got them at Party City like a PP said. They were great! Each one was different, so we all knew immediately whose card was whose. I took all our cards to GS and they punched a hole in them so they could hook onto the lanyards. We loved having them because we weren't always wearing something with pockets, like swimsuits. And because our kids are a little older, they carried their own.

They used to provide lanyards for everyone including first time cruisers, but they have changed that. First time cruisers are no longer given lanyards.

Neither my husband nor I will wear a lanyard. We do both wear work badges everyday that clip to our clothes - to a waistband or belt loop etc. so I am planning to bring one of those from work with a clean plastic pocket and since we are accustomed to wearing cards that way they will *disappear* and not bother us as they would hanging around our necks.

This was one of the things I wish I had brought! I always was stuffing it into a pocket and hoping it didn't fall out accidentally! Definately a must have if you ask me.

I brought my bead lanyard that I use for my work badge. While on deck 10 it broke sending beads everywhere! I bought a replacement for $9 I think. Anyway, if you go to a DVC presentation they sometimes are give out some lanyards so you may be able to get one free. You are going to want to brings something, but if you plan on carrying the wave phone with you all the time you may want to opt for a wrist bag.

We were first time cruisers in Feb. Knew we were not getting any from Dinsey. Got 7 Castway Cay ones off ebay for 10. Loved it when cruise director thanked us for cruising with Disney again.
They have them in ship store.

Just finished our first DCL cruise last month. I got a wave phone holder off etsy and it also has a slot to hold your KTTW card. Just search "DCL wave phone" on etsy and there are tons of patterns to choose from. I had to carry the wave phone anyway whenever my son was in the kid's club, so it was very convenient.

Would it be a good idea for kids to have lanyards? Our kids aren't really into pin trading but I thought it would be an idea to get them customized lanyards. Is there anything they would need them for? They will be 8, 11, 12 and 12.

Thanks! :hippie:
