Might seem a silly question but do I need to upgrade to Gold Insurance for car hire? I know it offers more drivers which I don't need but is there anything else that might be important? I also don't know whether to pre pay for fuel or is it better to fill up yourself and finally I have been looking at an intermediate car for 16 days and my prices are £300 plus if I want fuel, can anyone get a better deal? dates are 10-26th August for 4 people 1800 hrs collect and return..I really would appreciate the help as I held off waiting for a good deal and am sorry I did !

If you're talking about Alamo Gold, it is not an insurance upgrade.
Alamo Gold does NOT provide any additional coverage.
On their website they will list CDW full and EP protection as an Alamo Gold benefit, what they don't tell you is that you get the same coverage without the "gold"

Gold is only for the free tank of fuel and additional drivers.

will you drive a lot ?

if you don't think you'll use up a full tank of gas during your stay. You'll lose money if you prepay for fuel (and return at any level) because you'd have paid for unspent fuel.

if you think you'll need to refill at the gas station at least once during your stay, prepay for fuel is up to you. I peronaly always prepay.

Let me tell you a story to illustrate why.
The only time I didn't prepay for fuel, I went to the Hess station in front of DHS & Boardwalk entrances. The guy who was at the pump before me had spilled fuel, and there was a small pool of fuel I didn't notice ... until a few second through the journey back to the airport, where the smell of fuel was obvious inside the car (the soles of my shoes were full of fuel) ...try to imagine my options. Smell fuel on the plane, or put my shoes inside my suitcase, and leave them there with all my stuff for 15 hours until I reached home ... I tried to wash the smell off my shoes and that's how I spent my time at the airport ... very unpleasant ...

Chmurf,I will be prepaying and thanks for the advice...eeyore 1998,that is a brilliant price I can't get anything like it !
