Do I need DAS??

I posted this question on the DL board but think I probably should do it here instead.

My son has 20/250 vision with glasses and 20/400 when he is patched (which is 7 hours a day).

I don't feel like we need that much in the way of accommodations as both his dad and I will be with him at all times to help him get on rides, maneuver around the parks, and to explain what is going on to him.

My question pertains only to shows. Is there a visual impairment section for the shows up front? Does he need a DAS card to get into that section? The shows are the big one for us because I know we will want to go and I also know that if DS does not get a front row seat, he will not be able to see what is going on. I am not asking for a front row seat for our party, just for him. Anyone else have any experience with this? Thank you for your help.

You do not need a DAS to request specific seating for shows due to vision disabilities. Just mention the need to the first CM you see in line (and again at the next CM and again). Your whole party (up to 6 guests) will likely be allowed to stay together unless it's very busy with a lot of guests needing those seats.

The DAS is only related to wait times. Unlike the previous GAC it does not have various stamps such as front seating.

Will you please report back after you go and let us all know how it worked? We haven't read many reports on how it's worked when you have to verbally explain the needs at each show. I'm really curious to know how it works.

Seconding that emotion! It's been one of my main concerns ever since the demise of the GAC.

I'm a bit lucky, mine doesn't care about shows much. The last time we were there I asked if we should find out about seating for some of the shows and his response, "beauty and the beast is just as boring sitting up front..." LOL. typical 12 year old.

Good luck with your patching too - my older child patched and now has just shy of 20/20 in each eye. It really worked.

You can always get there early so you can sit up front.

You should plan to be at the shows early. My friend (vision-impaired) and I did not remember this and had to come back for the Finding Nemo show as all the seats near the front had been claimed by others in need.

This is/was my first plan anyway. I just thought I would ask just about a spot for visual impairments in case it existed. Being that I am trying to get around the parks with 4 kids, I always aim to be at shows early, but they sometimes tend to have other plans. Thank you for your suggestion.

Definitely plan to get there early. DS uses a wheelchair and has vision issues. We have to travel at busy times, and sometimes the only w/c seats are in back (where he can't see)--and that's getting there at least a half hour early. Have fun!
