My husband and I areplanning a Disney vacation next year for the whole family (all 6 kids and grandma). My question is do I need a card for each disabled child and do I need anote from each of their doctors stating their disabilities? Also since I have three with disabilities will all nine of us get to go together?

Not time for a long answer, but I would suggest you check out post #6 of the disABILITIES FAQs thread. You can find it near the top of this board or follow the link in my signature to go there.

Just because someone has a disability doesn't mean they will need a Guest Assistance Card. It's important to think about the needs they have related to their disability. That is what a GAC is based on.

As far as the line most are mainstreamed. This means one line for everyone. For those that aren't mainstreamed, you are allowed 5 plus the disabled person in a party. As long as everyone is riding, you will not have a problem staying together, unless you need a special car. Then you would probably have to split. This might mean if you need a wheelchair car for each child, then you would have to wait for three cars. This might mean that one rides, gets off, next one rides, gets off, and last one rides and gets off. The rest will have to wait for each one to ride and those riding with the child.

It depends on what your children's needs are. If they are met by using a wheelchair, then you do not need a GAC. If you need things other than using a wheelchair for them, then the best thing is to go to Guest Services and talk to them. They will give you the best GAC(s) for your circumstance...

Hi and :welcome: to both DisBoards and disABILITIES!

If any of the children need a GAC for other than mobility problems, it is recommended that one be issued to each child for that child's needs. That way if your group should break up to go to different attractions, each child is covered.

Although the GAC is intended for the bearer plus up to five people, if your total group is mostly children this will tend to override most of the number limitations.

And as said, a doctors note is never asked for and is not required. However, you need to, when getting the GACs, explain the needs and not the diagnoses.
