So DH has this brilliant idea of getting our own luggage and then heading to ME  Dont ask me why he wants to do this since we will have a 4yr old a 2yr old, carseat and carryons with no stroller, but hes insisting on it so they dont loose our luggage....do i have to register or no? Can we just check in? Im not sure how this all works last time we drove! If i have to register can i do it online? if so does anyone have the link? tia

To use DME from MCO to your resort, it is mandatory to have a reservation. Just contact the same place where you booked your room reservations.

Using DME luggage transfers is optional (and only available for arrivals from 5:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m.). If you want to get you own bags, just don't use the yellow DME luggage routing tags.

It takes time and effort (and a pocket full of money for tips for anyone who helps with the bags) to get you own bags. You will be on a later motorcoach. You will arrive later at your resort. And you have to deal with your bags once you get there. Depending on your arrival time, your room might not be ready.

Most of us here trust Disney with our bags much more that we trust the airlines.

thanks...i trust them its DH lol i will call later on

I see you're arriving in September. Since that's the case you should be calling ASAP.

DME mails out a confirmation booklet with flight information about a month before your departure date. Also included is one special DME yellow luggage tag for 1 piece of checked luggage for each guest. The yellow luggage tags are necessary if you want DME to collect your checked bags when you arrive at the Orlando airport. We are close to the end of August already, so you may have already hit the 30 day mark before your arrival date.

Disney has been known to expedite the mailing of the DME packet and luggage tags if the need is immediate. But I would certainly be calling them right now if I were you to see how quickly the packet can be printed up and mailed to you.

OT: Going home using DME it is also mandatory to have a reservation and a confirmed bus time too. Make this reservation at least two days before you need DME. Errors or last minute changes can be taken care of one day before.

If you don't receive the luggage tags in time, you can give them your baggage claims tickets at the ME desk.

Honestly, I agree - There is a better chance of the airline losing your luggage then the ME.... here's a wonderful example about how good their service really is that might alleviate your husband's fears - lord knows, you don't know where and why people imagine these things.

A few years ago, a couple with two young children was standing in line next to me. They never even bothered to read the ME packet, so they didn't know they were supposed to put luggage tags on. They didn't save their baggage claim tickets, because the TA told them Disney would take care of the bags and didn't remember her mentioning anything about any baggage tags. They just assumed someone was going to take care of everything because that was what the TA told them; they didn't care how it worked. They didn't bother to read the packet, which the TA assumed they would.

They FINALLY vaguely remembered their flight number, but did manage to remember what airline they came in on and what time they landed.... Disney called the Airline, and got them to confirm if Mr. and Mrs. so and so were on such and such a flight; got the airline to look up in the computer and find the baggage claim numbers, and then dispatched someone over specifically to get their bags from the baggage carousel.

Not only did they not lose their bags, they went out of their way to even locate them!

I know you said don't ask, but WHY???? DW's dream is to have them take the luggage without us having to take the bus. In fact, a few years ago, we rented a car and my brother and I drove to WDW and DW, DDs and DM took ME. We barely beat them there, but if we had to pick up the luggage, we never would have. I have always had great luggage experiences with ME - you should talk him into it.

oh trust me i have been trying to talk him into it lol...i think if i keep mentioning it everyday he will cave..actually im sure he will...i called the other night and the CM said they would send the packet out....thanks for letting me know i needed to call tho lol i would have just shown up and been stuck

I would tell DH that you and the kids are going to go get on the bus and he can wait for the luggage and schlep it across the airport himself:laughing:. I bet he'll let DME handle it for him after that:lmao:. On top of that, you may end up beating him to the resort if you get on a bus while he is dealing with the luggage.

I don't know how many bags you are planning on checking, but another option would be to let DME handle some of them and DH can handle the rest. If he *must* get his own bag and you are OK with DME taking yours, then put a tag on your bag and let DME take care of it.

Have a great trip!

Kristen - I agree! Tell him to do that.

Even better, put the baggage tags on your bags and the kids, and then let him schlepp over to the baggage carousel to get his bags, and leave him there.

You go ahead and get on the ME, and let him catch up with you later when he could be with you and the kids already enjoying his vacation.

Honestly, that is why I am not married.......

There isn't any better vacation than dropping your bags at your home airport and not touching them until you return to your home airport; ditto with doing the transportation and not renting a car. Now, that's is a real vacation.

I agree with this 100% and I am married and for a long time. Just because he is being unreasonable and wants to waste all the effort of getting your bags and carrying them and dealing with 2 kids doesn't mean YOU have to!!! You are an adult make your own decision and tell him that is what you are doing and he can do what he wants with his bag and the car seats and would he like the children also? You know that if you agree to go get the bags YOU are the one who will be dealing with the kids and trying to keep everyone together and lugging stuff.

The best part of DME is not touching the bags and having them magically appear in your room! If he doesn't trust DME to not loose his bag I guess he is only taking a carryon since why would you trust an airline over Disney?
