Do I have to have AP or voucher to book AP rate?

I am currently planning to be in Dec. 2012 and Oct 2013. I am am purchasing our tickets through Undercover Tourist today and will upgrade to APs once we arrive in Dec. If there is an AP rate for our Dec trip can I book it as long I will have our AP once we are there in Dec. I thought I saw somewhere that you are given 24 hours once you check in to get the AP?

I booked an AP rate for January and didn't have an AP yet. I wasn't asked to show it at check in either. We did buy them right after checking in though. We were staying CL at the Poly. They look just like our room keys.

Here is an explanation that I found:

You can book up to three rooms per adult Annual Pass. You can book with a valid Annual Pass, an exchange voucher or with the intent to purchase an Annual Pass, as long as you present a valid Annual Pass or exchange voucher upon check-in.


As far as I know they have only released AP discounts thru August at this point.

There are no AP rates yet for December. Once they come out, all you have to do is call Disney and ask if there are any AP rates that can be applied to your existing reservation. You do not have to have an AP or a voucher at the time you make the reservation. Just make sure to have it upon check-in; you will have to show it only if they ask for it. They have never asked me to show my AP upon check-in; NEVER.
