Do I have to book a vacation package to have a dining plan?

We are considering purchasing the Premier Passes to use at both DL and WDW. If we do this and stay on property, can we still have a dining plan?

First trip and are just in the early stages of planning.

You can sometimes, in fact most times, book an Annual Passholder room and a dining plan.

Really? ! One of the reasons I was hesitant of getting an ap was missing out on ddp!

So how often do they offer it to ap holders?

I don't think they offer the dining plan "free" for ap holders, they just let you buy it. I'll be there the end of May with my ap and a split stay. We are getting the dining plan for our one night at pop ( But we are paying for it). Since we are going to Ohana, it is a money saver.

It is always available to ap holders just not free.

That's fine. Not free is not a problem. There are just some places I would like to eat but it seems like a better deal if I have the dining plan.

You want to book an annual passholder "ticketless" package - it is a package reservation including room and dining only.

It is still a package reservation and follows package rules regarding payment, cancellation and change - which are very different from the rules for room-only reservations.

You can now book a room & dining plan without tickets, even if you don't have an AP. You need to call to do it, though.

As others have said, as an AP holder you can book a ticketless package with a paid dining plan. However, another option instead of the dining plan is to purchase the Tables in Wonderland card. It is available to AP holders for $100 and will give you a 20% discount on all food and alcohol at most DW table service restaurants and a handful (about 10) counter service restaurants.

We've used both and found that the dining plan works if you eat the way the plan is set up. Using the TiW card gives us more freedom to order as we wish (e.g. we don't all have to order an entree and dessert to make it worthwhile to use dining credits or instead of an entree one of us could order 2 appetizers).

Here's a link to the TiW website:

I can call to set this up?

Also, where are the 'pkg policies'?

Yes , you have to call.

The policies for a package reservation differs considerably from a room only reservation, but the most important package policies to be aware of are:

-deposit is $200
-final payment is due 45 days before arrival date
-any changes within 45 days of arrival may result in a $50 change fee (usually waived if the new package total increases)
-cancellation penalty within 45 days of arrival is $200, but if you cancel within 1 day or on day of arrival the penalty is the entire cost of the package

Mousesavers has a good summary of the policies for both packages and room only reservations:
