OK so I currently have a (home resort) VWL reservation from April 9-16.

Rather than staying the entire week at WDW, we are thinking of staying a few days at Vero Beach (non-home resort). If we want to stay there at the beginning of that week April 9-11, I can call on September 9th at the 7 month mark to see if there is availability. BUT if we decide to go at the end of our trip April 13-16th, I can't call until September 13th... correct?

FWIW.
I have been lucky enough to visit relatives near Tampa after WDW trips, and have discovered that a few beach days are the perfect way to end a vacation. Still great fun for kids, but also enough winding down time to prevent the "I need a vacation after vacation" feeling.

Although with "only" 7 days, I may want all WDW time because then it's easier to schedule some down time/pool/DTD time at WDW.
