June 29-july 6 - at Marriott Sabal Palms

found out yesterday that I didn't just hurt my foot - but broke my little toe - seeing the bone doctor tomorrow and hoping he can fix it.

my big problem is my car - always drive and my car has an manual transmission

this is my left leg and really need it for the clutch. Now came back from Florida with this problem and it was not a big deal - yes it hurt at times. but nothing stopping.

really want to go - have not been on July 4 - but once before and it was fun.

so do I go anyway - or wait until I see the expert and then decide.

It won't be the pain that would stop me - it would be hurting my foot permanently.

Not sure if they can do anything for a broken toe other than tape it so I would still go! Just take it easy.

I've broken my little toe several times and don't even bother going to the doctor any more. I just use first aid tape to tape it to the toe next to it and it heals pretty quickly. Have a great trip!

If your doc says its okay, then I vote for you to go :thumbsup2 . Just take it easy and enjoy yourself!

Are you going alone. If not just get a wheel chair in the parks. Driving shouldn't be a problem as long as you use the protective shoe.

I think by then you're likely to be much better either way. I've broken both of my little toes, and, as a previous poster said, all they did was tape it to the other toes. It was pretty painful at first but got better pretty quickly.

You have 5 weeks to go, it should be almost completely healed up by then. I wouldn't miss it! You could always rent an automatic if you have to.

thanks everyone.

the doctor won't say = have to wait a month....

he did nothing - the did give me a shoe instead of the boot - but honestly think my shoes were a better protection - they are new balances and fill more protected in them than the shoe.

For a broken toe, shoes are better than a boot. There is no actual treatment for a broken little toe, unless it's something bizarre like an open fracture (bone sticking out).

I would use your New Balances (because they are going to give you better support and cushioning), tape the toe to the toe next to it with regular old adhesive tape -- and if you have any swelling, apply ice.

For icing the toe, use a small ziplock half-full of ice with a little water (makes it MUCH colder). 20 minutes on (with something cloth between the ziplock and the skin); 20 minutes off. Reducing swelling will reduce the pain.

Have a great trip, Pat!

I agree. Not sure why he didn't mobilize it, but taping it will help keep it from being moved around. My first broken toe, I saw a doctor who did that. My second one, a RN friend looked at it and taped it herself. Both did exactly the same.

it does not hurt mostly - and no swelling - not even a bruise - so you that is why did not know it was hurt.

when it does get painfully just use ibuprofen. love ice for swelling - kept one in the freezer at all times. ice is also my first thing for heachache.

Toes are the only thing I have ever broken, but boy do I break a lot of them. Usually the worst pain is the first week or so, and then they heal quickly. If you're already to the point where it doesn't hurt much, you will be good as new a month from now. I broke a toe about 6 weeks ago--husband heard it crack from across the room--and I don't bother to go to the dr. anymore either. I didn't even bother buddy taping it this time because sometimes that makes it hurt more. I walked/drove with flip flops and was careful not to hit it on anything since it was unprotected. Six weeks later, I cannot even tell that it was broken.

Have a great trip!

thanks!

flip flops - can only wear them to the pool. My feet only seem to like new balance and do well in them. Doctor told me to get them even a few years before I retired.

thanks everyone - you have made me feel so much better!!! can't wait until June 29 to arrive!:worship::banana::cool1::dance3:
