I am trying to think of creative ways to earn extra money for Disneyland. I was thinking about a garage sale. Then I thought maybe I should try and ebay or craigslist items.

Thoughts? Im not sure the best route! What are your thoughts? :confused3

Depending in what you are selling try craigslist first. i have been able to sell baby gear (stroller, walkers, etc) for about half of retail! My cousin sold same type if stuff at a yard sale for $5-10 once people started haggling!

I had a garage sale a few years ago, which I advertised on Craigslist, along with listing some popular items (baby gear etc). I got many people asking about the specific items that I just set aside for them... if they didn't pick up prior to the garage sale, I put them out.

You could also check to see if there are any local facebook groups for selling items. I am part of a "***** County Buy-Sell" group. You're able to take pictures of your items and put them in your own album in the group. I kid you not when I tell you I've sold $345 in baby clothes on this site! Baby clothes that have sat through garage sale after garage sale...so needless to say, I've been thrilled! It all went right into the Disney fund jar!

A yard sale can be profitable 'if' you have a large amount of items or can get some other families together. If not, give CL a try.

Check and see if there is a local yard sale group on Facebook for your city/county. I have sold a lot of stuff on ours.

Wow! I am loving the Facebook idea. I will have to see if our community has something like that. Or maybe I can use my own facebook page to list items too. I did do a garage sale a year or two ago. Oh my gosh. So much work! I think I made okay money but it wasn't fabulous. It was just a lot lot lot of work!:crazy2:

You can make a lot more for certain items on Ebay, they just have to be small enough to ship.

Things that sell for a lot of money on Ebay:
1. Used higher end kids clothes in good condition. As in Gymboree, Gap, and more expensive stuff but even less expensive brands will sell if its in great condition. Sell your child's entire resellable wardrobe for one size in a lot. Don't include anything with holes, tears, stains, etc. Use flat rate priority boxes to ship, its much cheaper. I have made $100 off my daughter's used clothes from one year on more than one occasion. You may get 50 cents a piece at a yard sale.
2. Used toys, examples would be littlest pet shops, legos, polly pockets, Barbie stuff, those little Peek a blocks. Wooden train sets sell for a lot. Again sell in large lots and ship in flat rate boxes. I once sold my dd's LPS collection for $150 to a lady in Poland, there were maybe 75 LPS pets and a couple small buildings. Yard sale, I would have made maybe $20?
3. Used kids books, again, in lots. For example, if you have the Magic Treehouse series books 1-28 even in so-so condition these could go for upwards of $40. Or if you have a bunch of those hardback Dr Suess books leftover and they are in good shape, they will sell for close to $2 each, again, in lots. Yard sale you might get 50 cents a book. Use media mail rate.
4. Video games (Wii, NinDS, etc) resell for a fortune
5. DVDs also resell well if not scratched

Craigs list anything large or valuable, ebay anything small and worthwhile, donate the rest and write it off your taxes.

Another vote for a FB group. I have had things sit on CL for weeks before selling. When I put them on FB, I'll have several people fighting over the item within minutes. I've slowly been taking baby things out of the attic each weekend and posting them. I average about $100 per week. At a garage sale, people want to offer you 50 cents for an outfit. I'm getting $3-$8 per outfit on FB. If you have a military base close by, they will have a group and will probably allow civilians to join (mine does).

How do you sell things on a facebook group?

Search for your city name and "yard sale" or your reginal term (i.e. rummage sale). I belong to two groups. One is CITY NAME YARD SALE. The other is MILITARY BASE NAME YARD SALE.

Just to chime in that in my area the facebook groups seem to all be called 'swap shop'

Has anyone ever taken their thing to an auction? I am trying to get my house ready to move I have a ton of things that I had in my yard sales last year and I've just recently started eBay (very little luck there) I was ready to take a truck load to goodwill, but my friend suggested an auction, well I called yesterday and I have an appointment to bring it all in next week. This auction place only takes 30% and I get the full 70%.

Maybe this can help someone else.

I tried to do a garage sale once and it was very frustrating. People wanted stuff for almost nothing. Have something listed for a quarter? They offered a dime.

My stroller I was selling I had marked at 20.00 (I can't remember the brand it was so long ago). I received offers for 5.00.

So I started putting things on Craig's List. Sure I've received some low ball offers and had some no shows but overall, I've had much better luck.

I've also started selling smaller stuff that easy to ship on Ebay if it's something that is selling.

No online garage sales facebook sites are showing up for my area when I try to find them which is why I do Craig's List.

I do it on Facebook now. It's a lot easier to sit at home and post pictures than to drag it all out on the lawn. I love the Facebook groups when I am looking for something also.

Lisa

The facebook groups I belong to all have 'resale' in their name, instead of yard sale. That might be another way to search. :goodvibes

For those who sell on facebook, how do you create an album? Do you have a personal album that you use for multiple sites, or do you create a specific picture album for each site? If so, how do you do that? I've only ever bought, but I think I'd like to start selling some items. :)
