Do I even BOTHER making requests now?

With the new "early bird gets the room" policies, is there any point in making a request on my upcoming reservations?

I really really reallllllllly need NS... so do I claim medical need? (I don't have a doctor's slip or anything -- just very sensitive sinuses, as do my kids!)

And I reallllllly don't want HC... small kids in tow.

If we "limit" ourselves to 3 requests, that's all, should my requests be:

(1) NS
(2) NOT HC-adapted
(3) Please be kind, especially if we are late arriving. ;)

just follow the guidelines that DVC outlined on the Member website.

if you know what time you will be arriving, you can try adding that as your 3rd "request".

it seems hit or miss, whether or not Room Assigners are actually assigning rooms ahead of time or not.

it doesn't hurt to try. your requests are perfectly reasonable and general. (although, i don't know what is considered a "medical need". people with severe asthma would probably really need non-smoking.)

besides, DVC hasn't imposed any kind of limit to room requests. it is only that some people on the boards were speculating about it.

Not bothering to make are request is a sure ticket to a smoking HC room.

As said above, follow they posted instructions. I'm sure the vast majority of reasonable requests (NS, non-HC) are met.

Your requests are pretty easy to handle. Maybe no H/C less so in newer resorts. I suspect the % of rooms designed for wheelchair access has increased dramatically due to regulatory changes.

What we do is state that we have a medical need for no stairs, but we are not wheelchair bound. That way we rarely get H/C room.

In our opinion, having had H/C rooms in the past, it is no big deal. The most significant difference is in the bathroom design.

Personally I don't think DVC/Disney even reads the room requests at all.

Here's why I think so. We stayed at BCV in May. Made reservations and room requests (non smoking/Epcot view) in November of last year.

I check in all happy and excited to be there. The CM says "I see you requested NS and Epcot view." I said yes! (all happy still!) He says we have that room and it's ready now! I said great!

He then started to talk to me about some other things (Pal Mickey, etc.) and then went to his computer again and his face turns red. I said what's wrong? He says "someone just took your room." I said what do you mean? He said in the two minutes that he was talking to me, someone else at the check in desk just got my room!

There were no other Epcot views left.

I had to wait six hours for my pool view/NS room to be available. (the other room was ready to go, but I lost out on it.)

I was really upset. I got over it quickly because a room is a room and the pool view was very nice.

This makes me think that there are no such things as preassigned rooms. No one looks at them 3 days ahead of time and assigns them. It's first come, first serve.

Check in early! :)
