Do I Do It Alone With 2 Kids...If So ..How??

My biggest fear is something happening to me while we are away. As my DD knows how to use a mobile phone I went out and changed my mobile to a tri-band phone 'just in case'. At least then she could ring somebody at home and they could get on the case.

Tri-band mobile is a good idea, also I would photocopy each of your passports 3 times, same for your holiday insurance, I also make a list of phone numbers on paper who to call back home (in the order they should be called with reason next to them of why they should be called such as try dad, then his work, then Gran and so on), who to call when in the states, the name, address and phone number of your hotel..

Make a copy for everyone, and give them there own copies to look after, normally I only give copies to the adults in the group but be no harm if it’s just you and the boys to give them a copy each.

Oh and on your phone make sure you convert all numbers to international change, i.e. add the +44 to the start and drop the 0 from the 07 part. Also show your kids how to unlock and use the phone, and tell them that 999 is 911 in the USA.

You go away have a great time and nothing will happen, but should anything happen you and the kids will know what to do, you be surprised how well they would cope if they already understand what they have to do.

Its so weird you have posted about this because I am going through a similar dilema. i have already booked to go next october with DD6 who will be 7 then. the trouble is I am leaving behind DS4 and DS1. DH is more than happy to look after them but I know DS4 is going to be heartbroken when he realises what is going on. i have already paid a fair bit of money to virgin with a package deal and the only way I could turn it around and afford it would be to change my booking to a flydrive and book the hotel with disney seperately. the idea was to have a girls trip and go at a more relaxed pace. taking DS may result in tantrums and tearing from one attraction to the next. I don't think i can leave him knowing how much he would love to go back.

Sorry to jump on your thread, but while everyone is discussing your situation, I may just see if anyone has advice for me too. Hope this is ok,
Claire xx

Hi, i too have considered a trip like this .I also have 3 kids, DS's 12 and 6 and DD8.I have always felt that the younger one gets over shadowed by the other two and when we are on holiday,he has to go along with the 'louder vioces'.So i considered going away with just the two of us-assuming my ex partner would look after the other two.DD, i feel would also benefit from and 'girlie trip'.Eldest Ds is more bothered about the shopping in America as oppossed to being there, so provided he was promised something back, could be pacified. What i was thinking i may have to do is maybe ,rather than drastically uping and leaving with one, is maybe have a short break with all of them, even just a weekend somewhere, before the major trip.I'm probably being nieve(sp)assuming there is all this cash flying around as trips are expensive-i can just about scrimp enough cash for one trip let alone more-lol.But, it may soften the blow.I know it is not easy, but i think that if you start it now, it will become expected that you'll take a child away at a time sometimes and in time they will realise they have more of you and you will have no fights to referee :teeth: Good luck-I know people that do this all the time and are fine with it. :flower:

I've done it alone with three, it is great and I would not heitate. Just make sure you don't rush around or wear yourself out. As long as you feel you could cope with them and don't mind leaving hubby at home I would go for it.

I certainly dont mind leaving hubby at home...although no doubt I will miss him as he is pretty good in doing his fair share with the kids when on holiday!!
Can someone give me any idea on Town Cars?? What they do and if its a benefit?? :sunny:

Think Limo and Taxi and you get the idea ;) Basically it's a fancy car that way nicer than a taxi yet you don't look like an idiot in a limo.. as loads of these are about the costs are pretty cheap however watch out for bandits as lots of rouges kicking about Orlando area pretending to be taxi/limo company's. You best asking people who used ones for a recommendation, I also believe this forum has a sponsor that is a limo company and they must be ok as not seen any bad posts about them.

I used another that was very good service, great price and also talking with the driver you pick up loads of great tips and advice, for example my first stay I told him my hotel was a dump and he got us a new hotel that same day that was better quality for cheaper and closer to the parks. I guess they make commission referring people but the advice has always been spot on.

I'd do it. We stayed on site for the first time this year and I took my DD7 and DS8 to the parks on my own. It was really easy using Disney's bus system and when they both wanted to go on Space Mountain and I didn't I was able to take them right up to the ride and wait for them where they got off. Go for it :D

if you stay onsite, just use Disney's Magical Express service to get you to the hotel and back to the airport..
you can use the service even if you pick up your luggage yourself...
they're very efficient..
both my mom and sister used the service when they joined us in florida...
