Do hotel prices go down as we get closer, or book now?

Figured out my October dates! I know there's plenty of time so I'm not in a rush, but should we book now to ensure we get a room, or is there a chance of the rate going down?

If it helps, we're looking at Park Vue Inn, checking in that same weekend as gay days.

I find the closer to travel dates the more expensive the rooms get or find they are even sold out.

If you know your dates book and watch for a rate reduction.

Thanks!

uhm, how do I watch for a rate reduction?

I agree with Geemo. I would book the hotel now and periodically check to see if the prices are lower (start to make a pretend booking at the same hotel for the same dates and room category and see what prices are listed). Also, look into joining any clubs or email lists so if they announce any deals, you can see if they can be applied to your reservation.

For all of our trips, I always book the hotels as soon as I confirm my dates, and then check to see if rates are lowered. They rarely, if ever, are - so assuming there's no "penalty" for booking, I would go ahead and book. Then you can be OCD like me and check rates repeatedly up until your trip arrives ;)

Thanks everyone. I could have sworn the lady on the phone said they take first night's deposit but I could be wrong. I called mainly for info because I wasn't sure which hotel we wanted to book. I"ll give them a call tomorrow and reserve a room already. Thanks again!

Park Vue Inn does charge the first night as a deposit but if you cancel within their cancellation policy they refund it.

I have only booked Park Vue Inn once. It was in May 2010. They did require one night's deposit at time of booking. I ended up changing my mind within a week, cancelled the reservation, and had my deposit refunded to my credit card. Still haven't stayed at Park Vue Inn but have no complaints about their reservation process or personnel.

I would also suggest joining the social media pages (Facebook, Twitter, etc.) of the hotels you are interested. Lots of times they will post specials to those pages that aren't available anywhere else. We got an amazing deal at Ramada Maingate once just by watching their Facebook page. It was a 48 hour special that I probably would have missed if I didn't belong to that page.

If your an AP holder, I was told by a reservation agent to book the room as soon as you know when your coming and pay whatever they want. Then look for the AP holder rates about 2-3 months about and give a call back to get that AP rate. Thats what I just did earlier today. I booked for July but will call back in May for the AP rate when I see it advertised.

thanks for clarifying

Is there a reason you changed your mind? We stayed at Dessert Inn last time and had no complaints. It's just the better breakfast sounds appealing since I have to feed the kids anyway :goodvibes

Never thought of that. thanks!

closer you get to date you wanna go the higher the prices become

you honestly save a lot by planning early

I don't have much to add to this discussion, but just wanted to throw out there that our trip is in July and we've already booked the Park Vue (AAA rate). I was afraid they'd sell out of the room type we wanted! They did charge my credit card immediately for the first night. I also wanted to add a room request (and had a question) a few days after I booked, and emailed them, and got an quick & friendly response. So far, so good. :)

Mostly I just couldn't pull myself away from our tried and true favorite Hojo. I'm not always so good with new. I had thought I wanted to try something different and the idea of included breakfast and proximity to the park interested me, but there were just a few too many reviews of Park Vue Inn at that time (nearly 5 years ago) that made me reluctant to change. So I stuck with what I knew I liked, Hojo, where I have now stayed at least a couple dozen times. Since I have no personal experience staying at Park Vue, I have no idea what kind of experience I might actually have had.

Book it now. We usually go on last minute trips since we're AP holders but have changed our plans a few times because we waited to book the room and it jumped the next day to about $50 more a night. This was about 1-2 months out tho.

I'm having the exact same dilemma and traveling to DLR during the same time frame in October. We'll be flying in & can't decide if I should book our tickets now or wait to see if airfare comes down. Hate to miss out on saving $ but also don't want to miss out on the flight times that I want. Decisions, decisions...

I've found that not only can hotel accommodations become more expensive as we get closer to trip time, they may become unobtainable even during the slowest times.

Thank you. I was basically wondering if there was some reason for cancelling I should know about :thumbsup2 Nothing wrong with sticking to what you're comfortable with.

I haven't booked flights either. WE're coming from Hawaii so flights aren't super cheap. I like to fly in over night (it's a 5 hr flight and I can't imagine getting my kids to sit still that long without sleeping!) so hopefully that doesn't sell out as quickly.
