Do GTY Prices ever go down?

I was randomly looking online Tuesday and saw a GTY veranda for $2700. By the time I got back to my desk to book, this rate was gone and only regular rates ($3700+) were available for same cruise. Now, a GTY rate is back for that sailing, but at $3100. My question is, if I keep waiting is it "possible" that the $3100 GTY will go lower, or once it goes up it NEVER goes down?

Do you mean "GTY" which is a standard fare in a specific number/letter category (such as 4A, 5B, etc.)? Or a VGT, which is a special offer in the broad veranda category?

Either way, DCL can do what they chose with pricing. It's unusual for standard pricing to go down. Generally cruises are priced in tiers, meaning that after x-number of staterooms are booked then the price will increase. GTY is offered once a certain percentage of staterooms in that specific category are booked, and usually it does not return to where you can book a specific stateroom. *GT offers come out within about 2 months of cruise date and include restrictions. Those may come and go as inventory moves; whether or not a "better" or lower offer will come is anyone's guess.

Thanks for the clarification. I mean, VGT. I know it is only $400 difference between what I first saw and what is available now, but that is a big deal to us right now.

Yes, *GT rates can come and go quickly. You need to react fast if you find one you want. Another may be offered that's lower then the current $3100, but maybe not. You'll have to decide if you are willing to risk not going, or paying even more than $3100 if you wait and nothing better comes along, or if you really will only cruise with a lower fare and watching for that.

Are you referring to the Apr. 30 Fantasy Western Caribbean cruise? I have been watching the *GT rates and that rate wasn't available for long. I saw it one day and it was gone the next. I almost suspect it may have been a mistake. I wonder if it was meant to be a FLR or MTO rate. I haven't seen a VGT rate that low for the Fantasy in a long time.

Edit to add: The same thing happened with the May 14th Fantasy cruise. On the very same day, there were *GT rates that were less than the ones I see today. And, now, there is MTO veranda rate that is similar to the original VGT rate.

Yes, it was the 4/30 Fantasy Western. I also saw the 5/14 one today. I am watching both of those. I had wondered if maybe it was a mistake as well as it was literally only up for like 3 hours.

We booked the April 30th Guaranty rate we booked 2 rooms for 5 people. One inside (for the magic porthole) and one balcony for 5900$. It was okay but nothing like the Florida residence rate for the Eastern Caribbean late May. That one was half the cost.
