Do DVC "point values" ever change over time?

Just wondering if over time, point values change for the DVC resorts. For example, a 1BR at OKW in Magic Season is 218 points. I can see that some of the dates in particular seasons have changed between 2007/2008, but do they ever change the amount of points it takes to vacation? Many would have to purchase more points in the future if they bump up how many points it takes to vacation in any given season. Any help would be appreciated!!

Yes and No

Disney may change the points per day for a 1 Bdrm and make it cost more to stay during January or less to stay during April "Spring Break".

BUT, The overall points to stay at a 1 Bdrm for the entire year will never go up or down. So if it costs an additional 50 points to stay in a 1 bdrm in January, it would have to cost 50 points less for that same 1 Bdrm somewhere else during the year.

Right, Add up the total points to stay in a 1 bdr for the year. That total will never change but the individual nights stay can be manipulated up & down so the total remains the same.

As noted, the total points cannot be changed, but how they are applied can be changed by raising the values for some nights and lowering the values for others.

In practice this has happened only once - at OKW back in 1996 - when some nights were raised a few points and others were lowered and some saw no change at all.

Since DVC began, there has been no change in the seasons except to change the specific dates due to the annual change in date for Thanksgiving and Easter.

Here is the DVC point chart for OKW from 1991 - 1995. In 1996, the current point chart began and is still valid at least thru 2008 (and the 2009 point charts should be released in the next couple of months). The greatest changes were for Adventure Season, where all room types increased. All other seasons saw little or no change on weekdays, but larger decreases on weekends for all room types.

Points listed are for Studio, 1BR, 2BR, GV (weekday/weekend) respectively from 1991 thru 1995:

Adventure Season: 7/17 , 14/35 , 19/47 , 31/77

Choice Season: 8/21 , 17/42 , 23/57 , 37/92

Dream Season: 10/25 , 20/50 , 27/67 , 45/112

Magic Season: 11/28 , 23/57 , 31/77 , 52/130

Premier Season: 15/38 , 31/77 , 42/105 , 68/170

Current point needs:

Adventure: 8/20 , 16/40 , 22/54 , 36/88

Choice: 8/21 , 18/41 , 24/56 , 38/91

Dream: 10/24 , 20/48 , 27/64 , 45/107

Magic: 11/27 , 22/54 , 30/73 , 51/123

Premier: 15/36 , 30/73 , 41/100 , 66/162

Right, Add up the total points to stay in a 1 bdr for the year. That total will never change but the individual nights stay can be manipulated up & down so the total remains the same.

Actually there is a subtle change in the TOTAL number of points to stay in a villa for a whole year, year to year.

To have stayed in an OKW 1-B/R for the year would have been this many points:

2005: 10,358
2006: 10,311
2007: 10,315

and for 2008 it's 10,341

2009: 10,311
2010: 10,358
2011: 10,358
2012: 10,337
2013: 10,315
2014: 10,311
2015: 10,311

Note one reason 2008 is higher because it's a 366 day year. The variations in the other years is due to the way weekends fall within the various DVC seasons. Take January for example, which is Adventure season every year.

In 2005 January had 9 weekend days, and 22 weekdays. In 2006 January had 8 weekend days, and 22 weekdays. Since weekends cost more 'points' than weekdays, the month of January 2005 cost more than the month of January 2006. While one might think the extra weekend day carried over to February, it did, but February is a different Disney season. These subtle variations in how weekday/weekend days fall within the Disney seasons creates a slight variation in 'Total' points year to year.

Just a little trivia....:teacher:
