Do DVC members pay the "peak" DDP rates?

We are booked for July and I've added the regular DDP for our stay. I'm concerned about the new "peak" Dining Plan rates that they put in effect for the summer months. Do DVC members pay the higher rate or do we pay the regular rate?:confused3

If anyone has traveled in peak season and knows the answer I'd really appreciate it so I don't have a surprise at check-in!!!

No. at least not in 2010. We don't know about 2011 yet.

I didn't realize there was a "peak" price for the DDP.

That is new with the 2010 plans. DVC rates seem to have been decided before they came out with it so many are assuming we will see it with our 2011 rate.

If that happens, we may no longer do the DDP. It is not a huge savings for us, but adding the additional $15 - $20 per day for our family may put it to the point where we will just do OOP.

Not only that, but there are strong rumors that they are dropping the dessert from the plan.

Well, if that happens as well, it will definitely be a no for us.

We're fortunate in that we will be getting APs this summer and are most likely going to opt for the TiW card.

The DDP has worked well for us in the past, but if you take $5-10 off per day, per person, I can't see it making any sense.

It was getting close to not being worth it as it was with the existing version.

Through in the increase to $41 per day and remove some of the value and I just can't see it.

I wish they would have just left the DDP alone, the way it was back in 2007. Removing gratuity, adding to the cost for peak seasons, and removing dessert now, well it just keeps getting worse and worse. I could take the gradual increase in price, but these changes, especially the tip one, was a major change.

The DxDP can still be a good deal, but the DDP is almost a flat out rip off if you go to a buffet, a character meal, or a breakfast on your TS credits.

I'm okay with that only if they add appetizers back in. ;)

Wouldn't that be wonderful!?!:lovestruc

Thanks for all the replies. I'm glad to hear it is just the regular cost. We have TIW as well, and that works for us too. I do just LOVE having it all pre-paid and organized so the DDP has worked well and I use the TIW for all our extras like appys and drinks!;)

Food was higher President's weekend. I just about passed out with my bill at Liberty Tree Tavern. We didn't purchase DDP, the Family style meal was outrageous! It was back to normal prices in April.

Just being a member does not get you the standard rate during peek times, but staying with a point or DVC cash reservation does (when you sign up for DDP through MS).

Hmm. And here I have felt that *unless* you're doing buffets or character meals nearly each day, the plan was hardly worth it...

Here's the math. As you know, for 1 snack, 1 QS, and 1 TS per day, it costs:

$41.99 per adult (ages 10+) $11.99 per child (age 3-9) per night above the cost of the Magic Your Way Package for travel dates: 1/01/10 – 2/11/10 ; 4/11/10 – 6/03/10 ; 8/15/10 – 12/16/10

$46.99 per adult (ages 10+) $12.99 per child (age 3-9) per night above the cost of the Magic Your Way Package for travel dates: 2/12/10 – 4/10/10 ; 6/04/10 – 8/14/10 ; 12/17/10 – 12/31/10

So if you assume the average snack + QS is $10 per person per day, then that means the remaining break-even balance is about $32 or $37 per day per adult. So you have to average that at the Table Service restaurant per adult.

Buffets, character meals, and breakfasts are usually less than that (some less than $20), so getting your average up to $32 or $37 per TS credit is a challenge.

Now if you go to Le Cellier or other expensive restaurants to use your credits, then yes, you can make up your expense.

With the DxDP, it's easier to make up your cost. Instead of needing to average $32 or $37 per adult per TS credit, it's more like $21 per adult per TS credit. But you have to use a lot more TS credits.
