Do DVC members often trade home resort points

Do DVC members often trade home resort points to take advantage of each others 11 month window? (ex. I want VWL for Christmas and you want BWV for F&W Festival, we trade home resort points)

I can't say whether something like this has been done or not, but the two parties involved would have to make reservations for each other rather than swap the points. You can only transfer points in or out of your account each Use Year. So if you transfer some points out to another member, she cannot transfer any points back in to your account until both her and your next UY.

We have 2 contracts, one at VWL and BWV. We are hoping do just as you ask for a trip in Dec 2008. We will need a BWV Villa and a 2-br at BWV for an extended family trip. We will be able to transfer points out of our VWL contract and then accept points into our BWV contract. This will mean the other person will need to have 2 contracts as well.

I've seen it discussed a lot but recall little actual completion of this type of trade. The problem is there is a lot of risk, both parties need to have absolute trust in the other. And both need to have something the other wants desperately and can't get at the 7 month window. IMO, this would limit the issue to certain times at BCV, BWV, VWL and summer in HH. Possibly for 3 BR at OKW, VB and SSR as well.

What I could see more would be an asynchronous swap. Say person A gives person B 300 points at OKW and person B reserves say a BWV BW view unit for 270 points. Think the difference in resale value.

I have done this. I have a friend (here on the DIS, who I met on the DIS prior to a DCL we were on together) who owns points at BWV.

Since we are going this August, we decided to try out BWV, but really wanted a Standard Room. Thus, I contacted him (he had extra points)to make reservation at the 8 month window. I transferred my SSR points to him and he used his BWV points to make my reservation. We lucked out and picked up a 1 bed standard view at BWV at the 8 month mark.

However, I do trust him implicitly. It might be a harder decision for me if I didn't know the person IRL.
