Do DVC members need to pay the $95 exchange fee?

We are members of DVC. If we book a DVC resort through II (using a different timeshare as a trade)... do we need to pay the $95 exchange fee that DVC tacks on above and beyond II's fee?

For next summer's trip, we have 12 days reserved at DVC, plus a lead-in saturday at a hotel. If I was to get an II exchange... it would be MUCH less expensive than using my DVC points... plus I would not have to pay for the hotel. It would be an even better deal if I did not have to pay the $95 fee since I am already an DVC member.

As long as it is a trade, there is the transportation fee.

If you trade in through Interval, yes, you have to pay it - even if you're a DVC member.

Summer is hard to get through II for DVC - I wouldn't count on it happening. A studio - maybe. But anything bigger, I doubt it. It's a little easier finding something off season - like September or January.

We managed to trade-in and still had to shell-out the $95 fee, even tho we are DVC members also. This was an Interval International exchange, an OKW 1BR May (they also offered a BWV studio and an SSR studio in September) in exchange for our off-season Newport RI 2BR trade-in. That was on top of the $129 trade fee to II.

Interestingly, tho, we were able to use Member Services to manage the reservation once it was made, which made things more convenient.

Good luck trading-in to DVC. It can be difficult, but you can save a ton of points if you can get dates and units that work for you. Just remember to put in all of the on-site DVC resorts as possibilities in your search; this maximizes your chances of scoring the dates you want.

Pumpkinboy (and the rest),

Thanks for the answer. Yes, we realize that DVC is a difficult trade... which is why we bought DVC. We really have no interest in staying at any of the other off-site condos in the area. If we go to WDW... we want to stay in WDW.

What we do is to book what we want using DVC... and then put in an II trade request. If it does not come through... it doesn't matter because we already have our vacation locked and loaded (including our FF airline tickets).

If the II trade comes through... I get about a 50%-75% discount on the cost of my accomidations because my non-DVC exchange is much less expensive. For us... it is worth changing resorts if necessary to save so many DVC points.

However... at the end of the day... it really does not impact our Disney vacation experience if the II trade fails to materialize... because we have DVC already.

Thanks again.

/Jim
