Do the Disney Resorts add a "resort fee?" like the dolphin and swan. (Theirs is $10 I think.)?

The Disney resorts are "varied" by so many factors, mainly prices which directly reflect the availability of the amenities. There are VALUE, MODERATE, & DELUXE resorts. The Value & Moderate resorts do not have health clubs, therefore could not offer such a feature in an extra fee. None of the Disney resorts offer a COFFEE-MAKER in the room, therefore would not deliver FREE packages of coffee/cream/sugar to your room daily as the Dolphin/Swan provide. The Dolphin and Swan are Deluxe resorts, and offer 24 hour room service, and all the other features available at any WDW Deluxe resort (AND SOOoooo MUCH MORE, like LATE check-out and pools open 24/7~just to name a couple!). So, the Disney DELUXE resorts do not have any resort fees associated with their resorts. HOWEVER...if you choose to stay at a DELUXE DISNEY RESORT, and you wish to use the following:

A. HEALTH CLUB

B.IN-ROOM COFFEE MAKER & COFFEE

C. DAILY NEWSPAPER Delivered to your door

d. FREE LOCAL and TOLL CALLS up to 60 minutes

...YOU WILL BE CHARGED FOR the use of EACH FEATURE!

$10 per day is a veritable BARGAIN for all of these amenities at the Swan/Dolphin resorts! I only WISH the Deluxe Disney resorts would offer a RESORT FEE to cover these amenities. I would definitely pay $10 per day to have all these perks at the DELUXE DISNEY RESORTS!

Disney resorts don't (currently) have resort fees. You have to pay a la carte for the items covered by the resort fee at the Swan/Dolphin (newspaper, health club, phone calls).

Disney doesn't (currently) charge for parking. Other hotels are starting to charge even for self-parking.

yikes!!! i haven't noticed any hotels (non-disney) doing this at the places i've stayed at recently.

We requested, and received, a coffee maker and supplies, during our stay at the Poly and were never charged. My DSIL stayed at the CBR last year and told me she would incur a fee if she used the coffee maker and supplies that were in the room.:(

I think the 'resort fee' is so misleading. It makes you sound that you can opt out of paying it if you don't use the services. IMHO, the hotels should just bundle all the fees together and tell you that is the price. Period. Many places do charge for the spa or health center, but if you don't go there, you are not charged.

I think the Resort Fees are just a way a hotel can be competative in listings the room rates and they zing you for not reading the fine print.

It's worse when you book with PL. Your price just went up and you don't have the option of saying no thanks. Absolutely no reason why the hotels shouldn't be forced to include the resort fee in the PL price. I think it's also away to avoid having to pay a travel agent commission on part of the price.

At least Swan/Dolphin is giving you something for the fee (coffee, newspaper, phone calls). Some of the hotels are just tacking on the fee and giving you nothing else.

I just think when you pay that much for a hotel room, they shouldn't ding you for 'extra resort fees'. How come I can get a newspaper for free at a Hilton for $129 / night, but I have to pay a $10.00 / night resort fee when I pay $200 at the Dolphin? What a waste.

The newspaper is actually FREE at the Swan/Dolphin too. If you "OPT-OUT" of the resort fee, the paper will continue to be delivered to your room.

Yes, many persons have selected to "OPT-OUT" of the resort fee at the Swan/Dolphin, and have been successful in having the meager fee waived. I bring a laptop...and use the health club and coffee machine, etc. The $10 fee is a BARGAIN compared with the costs separately for these features!

I believe if you stay at a place and pay $200 per night for a room, an extra 10 bucks should not be a big concern. Especially considering the LOCATION of these resorts over a HILTON (off property), and the amenities associated with this fee. Parking is FREE at the Swan/Dolphin. They do not HIDE the fee, and do not force anyone to STAY at these resorts. If you do not wish to stay at the Swan/Dolphin...because of the $10 Resort fee, then by all means~stay elsewhere! :p

Enjoy your vacations...where ever you stay! ;)

*P.S. Thanks for the heads-up "safetymom", on the coffee-maker in the room at the CBR. Is this "standard" for ALL moderates? I do not recall a coffee-maker in our room at old Dixie Landings? I do recall a mini-bar in the CBR rooms. Is this still a feature in this resort? Thank you, again. :)

dreamflight99, I am not sure about Port Orleans and coffeemakers. When we stayed there in November I didn't think to look.

The mini bars have been gone for quite a while at CBR. Glad I could help.

We stayed at the Dolphin in a resort view room with a balcony over Christmas week (we left on New Years Day). We saw the EPCOT fireworks every night from our balcony - even New Years Eve when it was pouring . We paid $192.50 a night for this glorious room - probably half the exorbitant "holiday" prices Disney was charging for a similar view. Did we mind paying the $10 resort fee...not at all!!;) By the way, ReadyforDisney 2003, you can get a room at the Dolphin for a whole lot less than $200 and it sure beats the Hilton!!!;)

I believe the Swan/Dolphin resort fee is "extra" so that is does not get taxed. But I didn't mind paying it over New Year's so I could make phone calls. I also enjoyed seeing the fireworks this past rainy New Year's Eve from MGM, Epcot, and Pleasure Island from my view at the Swan. Plus the location is great!

We stay at the CR every year & we get a coffee maker w/supplies every day of our stay along with the daily newspaper....with no additional resort fee. We didn't get charged parking either, but then we self-parked.

Consider renting points from a DVC member. For about $120-$150 (no tax) you can have a studio at Boardwalk with a coffee maker, microwave and refrig. and use the health club for free. Also free on-site laundry room.

For $220-$300 (depending on season) you can rent a 1 bedrom have all the above plus: a living room with pull out couch, full kitchen (greating savings on meals and time), a washer/dryer in unit and a greta jacuzzi tub.
