Do convention Hopper tickets need to "activated" upon first use?

This is our first trip to WDW and I'm not sure how this works. We purchased our tickets directly through WDW--they are convention tickets that expire 10 days from first use. Are we ready to go with these or is there something we have to do first? Seems as though I read somewhere you have to be fingerprinted. Is this true? Where do you do this?

I know the tickets are supposed to be non-transferrable, but my BIL and SIL are taking our kids to DQ on 12-16 so my husband and I can celebrate our 15th anniversary at Epcot for the CP and Illuminations. Our tickets have admission to DQ and I don't think theirs do. Can we switch tickets just one night?

Thanks,
Beth

You do not need to activate them. They should be ready to go. I was at a convention last week and the convention tix worked just like regular hoppers, with the exception of the expiration date. While they say non-transferrable, Disney does not take the effort of knowing who is actually using a hopper ticket. They do not ID at the gate. You should be fine with the in-laws taking the kids to Disney Quest.
