Our airline tickets state that we will need photo id's to board the plane. Do children need any id's or is this strictly for adults? My kids don't have any photo id's, but I could bring thier social security cards or birth cert. with if I need to. Any ideas on if I need to bring anything for them?

I have IDs for mine, but only got them after 9-11. Sometimes they look at them sometimes not. There is a certain age when you MUST have them and I can't remember what it is, maybe 16 or so? I wouldn't go out and have them made, as long as they are flying with you I'd just take along their SS cards. (Mine love their IDs, they look just like our drivers license, makes them feel grown up!)

We have traveled many times with our kids in the past couple years, I do beleive that the age for required ID is 18. My son is very tall 6.5' and was always being asked for ID he has a drivers license and when they saw he was only 17 they waved him off. Our 9 year old was never asked for any type of ID.
Don't stress yourselves over this, as long as the adults have ID you won't have any problems.

We just flew on Southwest a couple of weeks ago to Orlando and they only checked the photo ID's for my husband and I. They never asked for any sort of ID for my children (4 and 11).

I believe it depends on your airport and airline.

But I don't think anyone will give you a hard time if your minors don't have IDs.

When we went to Disney World in 2002 (cheerleaders) they didn't check ids if you were a minor.

We just went to WDW two weeks ago and flew on US Air. I was alone with the three kids. They asked for my picture ID only and just asked the kids their names and matched them up with the tickets. I don't like to take SS cards or birth certificates with us because I don't want to lose them and the kids have never been asked for any form of ID so I wouldn't worry about it. My DS12 is also tall (taller than me now) and they never ask him for anything.

Only need them for adults. Some airlines will ask teens who look older, so my DS started carrying his at 15 just to be safe. I've never carried anything or been asked for anything for my DD8.

I have never heard this. There is no standerized pictures in the country for childrens ID so I don't know how they could enforce it. We are leaving for Disney next week and the airlines only told me to bring ID's for me and my husband. I have ID's from the kids schools. They were new this year and I am bringing them just in case.

We fly at least once, sometimes twice a year. They require photo IDs for adults. I am not sure if the required age for having an ID is (16 or 18). They will probably ask the kids thier names. Have a great trip!!!

We've flown a few times since 9/11, DH & I show our ID's. On our two trips last year, older DD (who was our freshly minted driver) was eager to show her license. The ticket clerk at Southwest was great, "demanding" to see it. Our younger DD is asked her name and her age when we pass through security, but that's all. (and during our last trip, I lost my license on our way down to WDW, but DH & DD showed their licenses and I was allowed to pass through on our way home). You could contact your airline to see what they "require" (it's what I did when I discovered my license gone). Don't worry, it should be fine! :wave2:

We just booked our airline tickets through Delta and I asked the same question. The Delta rep told me no ID needed if under 18. :flower:

My kids have military IDs (courtesy of their father) so I generally only take those with us when we travel. It allows them military discounts and privileges wherever they go, as well.

We live in Washington State, and were able to get a photo ID for our (then) 13 year old at the drivers license place. She needed it to board Amtrak (which we will never take again but that's a different story!)

My kids have never been asked for ID. One thing I have started doing is making a copy of our airline itinerary with my name and cell phone number, my child's name, and my Dad's name and phone number. I put these in my kids backpack, just in case. :sunny:

I have never ever seen them ask for IDs for kids. Not necessary.....thank goodness they don't require IDs for kids. Could you image what the lines at the DMV would be like then.....at least in big cities....from a 3 1/2 wait...to bring your own breakfast and lunch experience.
