Hi all,

I'm a Disney newbie. I have taken several cruises but never with DCL. I was in the Magic Kingdom back in the 1970's when I was about 8 years old but I hear a lot has changed since then. :-)

Can anyone tell me if characters come visit the dining rooms at dinner on the cruise ships? I have heard about Crush in the Animator's Pallet, but I was wondering about the princesses or Mickey and the gang.

Thanks,

~WanderLit Granny

On the Wonder, Mickey comes in to Animator's Palate as part of the "show" at the end of dinner. This used to happen on the Magic also but not sure now since it was re-imagined.

I sailed on the Magic about a year ago (after re-imagining) and am almost certain that Sorcerer Mickey made his appearance in Animator's Palate.

Sorcerer Mickey came in to Animator's on the Magic in October. He doesn't visit tables or anything. He comes in as part of the show and makes some grand gestures, waves to everyone and leaves.

LOL and that will be enough for my granddaughter to loose her mind. Thank you, she is a big fan.

If you sign up for the character breakfast... they will stop for pictures.

Tip.... don't sleep in!

They don't visit the dining room (other than, as others have stated, to come in and wave or sometimes a little dance - Minnie dressed in a flamenco dress doing a little dance, Beauty and the Beast dancing), but they do pop up unexpectedly all over the ship. In the Med in 2013, DH and I were sitting outside the Cove Café in the adults only area and I saw something moving out of the corner of my eye. I looked up and there were Mickey and Minnie wearing traditional Italian costumes sitting in the couch in front of me waving at me. The escort with them took our pictures with our iPads.

In previous cruises, we've had Alice run up to us and ask where the white rabbit was, Chip and Dale sneak up behind us and pat me on the head, walked out of the dining room just in time to get our picture taken with Greek Mickey, had Daisy Duck come and see us off when we were gathered in one of the lounges waiting for our excursion to go off ship and many other accidental encounters. That's in addition to the posted times where they'll do M&Gs and pictures.

OH!! I didn't know they did that on the Ships! Is it something you can make reservations for like the premium restaurants or the Royal Tea?

Character breakfasts are offered on some cruises -- typically must be at least 7 nights on the classic ships, I'm not sure if there is currently a character breakfast option on the Fantasy. You sign-up by getting tickets (free) on embarkation afternoon. Details will be available in the Navigator you receive during check-in at the terminal.

There are also free ticketed meet & greets for princesses and Anna & Elsa. Most other character meet & greets are free (no ticket) and noted in each day's Navigator. There are also dance parties and such with the characters. Sometimes the characters make appearances at the nursery and Club/Lab during secured programming.

Enjoy your cruise!

Thanks lanejudy. It sounds like there will be no shortage of opportunities to mingle with Mickey et al.

On occasion. Mickey does make an appearance during the Animator's show on the Wonder (and the Magic, last I experienced).

We've also had Ariel in Triton's; Belle & Beast in Lumiere's; and, of course, Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Pluto, Chip and Dale during the "old" character breakfast.

In the "good old days", characters roamed all through Parrots Cay on the first day during the lunch. It was our favorite time of the cruise. You are all excited to go, having your first meal on the ship and Disney characters roaming all through the restaurants. So sad when they took this away. The 7 days cruise on the Magic use to also have a character breakfast that you did on your day at sea. Now the only character I saw in the actual restaurants was Mickey at Animators while on the Magic. (just got off a few days ago so totally updated info) However, there are no shortages of characters all over the ship, Castaway, etc.

On our cruise this week on the Wonder, we had a character breakfast of Disney Jr characters (Doc, Sofia, Jake) plus Mickey and they visited each table for interaction and pics. It was ticketed. Sorcerer Mickey did come on the show night in AP, but not for pics and meeting. Just walking around we ran into Belle and Cindy outside of a traditional meet and greet. If you stop at Castaway Cay, you usually run into some characters as well if the weather is cooperating.
