Do cell phones work in Disney World?

I've seen a lot of suggestions for pagers and Walkie Talkies, but no mention of using cell phones.

I'm planning on using our cingular nationwide family plan phones.

Any comments or suggestions?

We used SPRINT last year, and yes, it worked on property.

Each company has a map of where they have good coverage and where the "holes" are. Someone who uses Cingular may have more specific information.

We always use our cellphones...I've even received a call inside Space Mountain (AT&T). I just switched over to Cingular's GSM and I had a dropped call while trying to use the phone in the Germany pavilion area and also had no reception in the MouseGear store but otherwise our phones worked fine.

Mine phone has always worked in WDW. We did use a lot of test messaging to get in touch with each other as not to disturb others in line.

We used our cell phones (Sprint) last year and had no problems. My DH and I each had a phone so we could stay in touch if we split up. Three years ago we used the walkiw talkie thinga and they were horrible! It seemed like no matter what channel you were on, you could not hear the other party. There were way, way too many people using the walkie talkies. I much rather prefer the cell phones! :flower:

As my Dh said last night in regards to my niece and WOD store. If 3 adults need cell phones to find another in that store there is no way a 6 yo could find one of us if she got lost.

We have Cingular, and our phones have always worked pretty well at WDW. Not too many dead spots.

Cingular also merged with another co. a few months ago, and there calling areas improved as well. I know our service here in Ohio, improved tremendously.

I have t-mobile and i am going this weekend and i do not know how it works. i used walkie talkies which was horrible so hopefully cell phones will be easier.

We used Sprint with no problem.

I had a few dead zones inside certain buildings and in the hotel room on Cingular, but if I went outside I would get perfect signal. I have since switched to Sprint and not had a problem. Verizon also worked just fine

I have T-Mobile and used it quite a lot last August...it was especially helpful since we got stuck there due to Hurricane Frances and were able to keep in touch with family here at home who were worried sick about us!

We have used T-Mobile for many trips. Inside attractions sometimes the signal wasn't there, but you really don't need to use your phone inside an attraction anyway.

We're on the T-Mobile family plan and with two teenagers that run off their own directions it is great!!

DH and I have Nextel with the nationwide Direct Connect (walkie talkie) and we plan to use them on our trip especially if we get split up from each other.

I have T-Mobile and it worked great...the only problem we had was....I keep my phone on all the time...Mom doesn't...if Mom tried to turn on her phone...many times she could not get a signal...if the phone was on...it was fine. Does this make any sense?

I might also matter what kind of phone you have...some get signals better than others...I have the uber geek Treo 600.

We have Sprint and so far the only place I can remember not getting a signal ever was in our room at the CB. All other hotels have been fine so far.

WE have tmobile also and it worked great in the parks. There are a few "dead" area and mine really didn't work too well on the rides. (who talks on the phone while riding TOT anyway..)..but other than that it was a GREAT way to stay connected to my husband when we would "split" to ride with our DS or to just ride something by ourselves. We have motorola walkie talkies that we tried to use there..it was horrible!! I could hear everyone's conversation but my own!!!!

Have a great trip!!

WOW
I never expected this good of a response. I must say...Cell phone have been the greatest inventions for families and safety.

Thanks for all your input..

By the way, I just have the free Nokia that came with the package, my kids and husband have all kinds of gadgety phones. Sometimes I get goofy service but for the most part it works. We just switched to the GSM phones for the National plan due to my husbands new job. Cingulars not been a bad company for service. But I havent tried others.

I'm glad we'll have cell phones and not be burdened with the problems of walkie talkies.

I have old school AT&T/Cingular TDMA (Nationwide). It worked all over WDW in Dec. '04. But now it's Cingular and they are phasing out TDMA for GSM. Just thought I'd let those TDMA-ers know...

My mom had Sprint and her's worked very well also.

I have T-Mobile and the Seimens flip phone and it worked great in March. Suprised the heck out of me when it rang on RnR at MGM!

I didnt answer, I'm use to the law in New York - no talking on the cell phone while driving!
