Do CD's bought in USA work in UK?

Could a seasoned traveller please confirm whether I can buy CD's/DVD's in USA, and play them back home in UK. I know Video's wont work - are discs any different?

Cd's will work anywhere , they're universal, but dvds have limitations. dvd are made for different "regions". america (and maybe canada) are region 1. other countries have different numbers. but if the dvd says region "0" it will work everywhere. most dvd's have the region printed on the back of the case. does tht help?

look under multi region hacks to see if your Dvd player is listed and there is a code for it to make it multi region
