Do Castaway Club members receive a lanyard every cruise?

I don't use the lanyards but my husband said he prefers the DVC ones. At one point he was actually able to combine the Gold and DVC lanyard together. Not really sure why he did that, but everyone we saw asked him how he did it. And by the end of the cruise, we saw a lot of the combo. :)

I've done this recently. It only works with more recent velcro lanyards that are the same style for both. They're actually 2 physical pieces, so you can mix-and-match. Older lanyards were one piece each, and that didn't work. I'm not actually sure we got DVC lanyards on our last cruise, but we have so many we've sopped trying to get enough for all of us all the time - I'm really the only one who wears a lanyard the whole cruise, so the rest just pile up. I remember one cruise between the 3 of us we somehow ended up with 9 lanyards... I have no idea where the 3rd set came from, but they really clutter up the stateroom!

Sorry...I don't. I checked through all the photos. Most of the time, it was my husband taking the photos. And when he was in it, it appeared he wasn't wearing it.

According to him, it was very easy to do. One section of the DVC lanyard is completely attached, but the other side is detachable. He just replaced the detachable strap with the one from the CC one.

Also, the DVC one "sits" better around the neck so he prefers it.

We did this too. Here's how ours look like.

CM's did it for us on the Dream in 2016. When i asked about it the following year in the Wonder, I was told that they stopped doing it due to the risk of poking. They handstitched it. I kind of just kept the ones that they made and use it every cruise (till we reach platinum).

I didn't realize they did this for guests. My husband just did it on one of our cruise and he said it was much more comfortable. We never saw anyone wear it that way before he showed some other guests. Also, there was no need to handstitch since one part is easily removed.

Did the CM say what he meant by "risk of poking"?

Risk of poking because they had to handstitch it where the DVC lanyard meets with the CC lanyard near the plastic pouches.

My bad, this was in early 2017. DVC lanyard in 2016 was red, not blue.

There was a time when it was held on by velcro, not stitched. I think 2014/ 2015. Maybe that's the one you guys have? Switching it with velcro would be so much easier as there would be no stitching necessary.

Now I understand, half-n-half. Thank you. I'm going to give it a try.

I didn't even remember the red ones so I went into our DCL box and we had quite a few red ones. But it was the blue one my husband combined. I'm still trying to find a photo of that or the actual one he did. But he was also positive it was the blue one.

But now I'm wondering if it was on our DVC member cruise and not the regular cruise. I believe the one given at the member cruise was blue and had velcro.

When I was gold I never wore the lanyards. Hated the color. Platinum I love the navy blue so I’ll wear those. I save all our lanyards in a box of vacation stuff. Eventually I want to weave them together and make a solid panel that I can use to make a little bag or pouch out of. Kinda like the Harvey’s seatbelt bags.

I also keep all our bandanas from pirate night. I have soooooo many. Eventually I’ll make something out of those, too.

We just finished our last silver cruise. My dad didn't register that our lanyard color would change on the next trip. When he sat the new color, he was not impressed. It became a running joke.

Actually, when we did our on board booking, we even joked about it with the booking agent when he mentioned our status was changing. He did not disagree about the garishness of the gold lanyards.

It’s a shame. I dont know what a good solution would be, but “garish” is a good description for those lanyards.

I didn't mind the colours. But then again, I didn't wear them...not because of the colour but I just don't like wearing lanyard.

The rest of my family didn't mind the colour. Although, I thought the Gold changed in colour a bit. It seems more yellow than gold now...not sure if I'm just remembering incorrectly. I
thought they were darker before.

Same here! I don’t like wearing them either. We wore them on our second DCL cruise. I looked at DD’s pic wearing it with her dress for formal night and decided never to wear them again. I got us Coach’s small wristlets for carrying ID cards. They look better with dresses.

For me, it was more the comfort level. Like you, I wore it the first time we received it and after the first day, I haven't worn it again. Other than the fact that it was uncomfortable around my neck, when we went out on deck, there were times it would sway and fly off so much that I spent the whole time holding it. At one time, it actually hit me in the face (it was hilarious:rotfl2:), so I didn't want to go through that again. I figured, if I'm going to hold it, I might as well just put it in my pocket....but, I was lucky that my husband didn't mind it so he kept mine the whole time...still does now.

Checking in for the EBTA in Miami last month, the girl tried to give us Silver lanyards even though it was our 7th cruise and our KTTW cards clearly stated Gold. It took quite a bit of explaining for her to "get it".

We talked quite a bit to a family of three seated at the table next to us in the MDR, but noticed that only one of them (the mother) had a Gold lanyard. I thought it was very strange that she kept asking questions about how things worked on DCL if it was her 5+ time sailing.... until the third night, when she asked us exactly what "Castaway Club Gold" meant, and said that the check-in person had randomly given her the lanyard and she had no idea why. They were sailing Concierge, so the only explanation we could come up with was the check-in agent confused their gold KTTW with meaning they were a Gold member. Seems like in Miami you could end up with anything!

I didn't even remember the red ones so I went into our DCL box and we had quite a few red ones.

The red DVC lanyard is my favorite, and I always wear it instead of the CC ones. The newer lanyards, both CC and DVC, just aren't that nice IMO. I'm not a fan of how thin they are nor the shiny material they're made of - and I swear the ones a couple years ago were ridiculously long, whilst the newer CC ones are too short. The red one is perfect, plus I rarely see anyone else using the same style (there's a dark blue one of the same design that seems to be slightly more common). I've had the DVC staff comment on my lanyard, more than once the term "old school" has been used :D

Is the platinum lanyard navy blue? I've always seen it as black.
