Do as Dreamers Do~Disney Dream February 5th, 2012

We will be on this cruise also. (this is hubby and I's 2nd Disney cruise...Wonder 8 years ago) There are 6 adults and 1 17 yr old boy LOL. We are doing this as a family cruise. Myself, hubby, son, my sister, my mom and my aunt and uncle. We will be celebrating the fact that come Jan 1, 2012 hubby will have 20 years of active duty in the Navy :) We were also hoping to rent a cabana at CC but seeing as how we are not platinum members we are SOL. I am hoping to find someone that rented one and now wishes they hadn't spent the money. We are more than willing to pay. We have 2 in our party that walk with canes and just feel that is would be nice for them to have a place to stay and watch us instead of feeling as if they have to follow us around. Maholo!!!!!

Helloooooooooooooo?!?! Anyone out there????:sail:

Still here!! Now that the holiday craziness and final exams are done I can start to catch up! :woohoo:

I would love to join in the FE action but I'm a total newbie with this so any advice would be awesome. I'm working on our door magnets this weekend so I could incorporate the FE stuff easily. Don't know about y'all... but we are getting soooo excited for Feb 5th! :yay:

Last December my husband purchased the internet package and was unhappy with it. It took forever to connect and was sorry he spent the money. This time he will have his I-Phone, not sure if his internet will work or not.

Welcome to our new fellow cruisers!

Oh wow... thanks so much for the heads up! That's really a bummer, though.

Also, speaking of iPhone, I'm not sure who your carrier is but we have Verizon. During our last cruise I called them for a temporary hook up to international calls. I ended up not getting it because they wanted a king's ransom. So then the rep told me that I should leave my phone completely turned off while at sea. Reason being is that if someone left me a voicemail or a text - EVEN IF I DIDN'T READ OR LISTEN TO THEM - that I'd be charged the international roaming rates for them!! How nuts is that?!

Happy new year!

We will be on the 2/5/12 dream and can't wait! It will be me & DH, DS, and 2 DDs, plus 6 other family members. After the cruise, we're off to 3 nights in Disney world- first time for me and my kids.

I've cruised before but not on DCL. We received our packet with luggage tags yesterday, and now I'm starting to panic Cause I have so much to do! Hard to believe we'll be on the Dream five weeks from now!

Renee:yay:

Hello there,

Now that the holidays are over I feel like I can really start planning our trip! Just stumbled upon this thread....I had no idea. In the last 20 min I have learned so much reading all the different posts. Who knew you needed door magnets?

My family of four (2 girls...5 and 3) as well as my parents are very excited about the upcoming trip. We are doing two days at the park before and can't wait for the magic to begin. My parents have cruised before but the rest of us are newbies. So, any advice/hints/etc would be greatly appreciated. I mean, had I not read about the door magnets my girls would have been disappointed! What else is a MUST that I should know about so I can be prepared?

Thank you so much for your help!

Ok, shot that wedding yesterday so now I just want to see how much photo business I can drum up this month to have a bit more spending money on the trip!! The bummer of it is, I think I've got the flu. At least it hit today and not in the middle of the wedding. And more importantly, plenty of time to get over whatever germ it is before the cruise.

My DD8, Meara, is snorkeling in the tub right now. I have $50 in Disney dollars socked away, and I told her from now til we leave, Feb 1, she can earn $1/day. If she whines/argues/is generally uncooperative as 8 year olds can be, she gets a warning. 3 warnings in one day, she loses the Disney dollar for that day. So the homework will get done and the teeth WILL be brushed TWICE a day all month long with little arm-twisting is my hope!!
Anyway, she says she has not encountered any sharks in the bathtub YET...
Just hoping she will be a pro for Castaway Cay...and hoping the water isn't too terribly chilly!

Ok, correction on my room number, it's 7184. WAY aft, but I guess that's ok, the important thing is, IT'S ON THE SHIP!

Ok, so....how about a little survey to let us get to know eachother?

Question A: Favorite Disney Movie?
Question B: Number one character you'd like to be photographed with?
Question C: Favorite Memory in the parks or on a ship?
Question D: Favorite cocktail to make in your room/on your verandah/to order on the ship.... please include a recipe if you know it!
Question E: Best tourist tip to share with the rest of us about our upcoming adventure.
Question F: What is next on your to-do list to get ready for the trip?
Question G: Describe your packing status: a)All packed and have been since two weeks after booking, b)I have a basket in our living room labeled "CRUISE" where I toss things as I think of them, c)I am thinking about bringing the suitcases up from the basement, d) Packing? I'm so busy it will be a miracle if I get that done even the night before!
Question H: As well make our lists of what to bring, please share one item we might forget or not think to put in our suitcase that you find helpful when on vacation or on a cruise.

Ok, I will go first in my next post!

Question A: Favorite Disney Movie?
I really have to think about this!! To me there's so many categories.. in the classics I think Sleeping Beauty, in more recent times, I loved Princess and the Frog, and then there's Pixar- where I loved Cars (One but definitely NOT Two.)

Q
uestion B: Number one character you'd like to be photographed with?
- My favorite so far, was the White Rabbit in England at Epcot, but I'd LOVE to run into Captain Hook on the ship. Not sure if he is just so popular it will be impossible to get a pic! Plus he's HUGE, better have the wide angle lens ready!
Question C: Favorite Memory in the parks or on a ship?
Watching Meara hula hoop in front of Cinderella's castle. We could not tear her away.... all those rides and attractions and all she wanted to do was hula hoop! Has anyone else seen this? Not sure where the hoops came from, they just "magically" appeared on Cindy's front steps!
Question D: Favorite cocktail to make in your room/on your verandah/to order on the ship.... please include a recipe if you know it!
This is self-serving... looking for ideas from you guys, stuff that might be easy! My favorite cocktail is an Amaretto Sour. Just yummy and fruity! 1.5 oz amaretto almond liquor plus 2 splashes of sweet and sour mix, and I personally like to add a splash of pineapple or orange juice. Then top it off with a slice of orange and/or a cherry! DELICIOUS!
Question E: Best tourist tip to share with the rest of us about our upcoming adventure.
I'm just a planner. I learned with tourguidemike that it's fun to plan and it pays off. It's the people who just "show up" that end up waiting in lines! We don't do lines.
Question F: What is next on your to-do list to get ready for the trip?
I think I shall attempt these door magnets. I have all the images from the DISigners saved, so I just have to go buy the paper and start at it, just not sure the best way yet though...
Question G: Describe your packing status: a)All packed and have been since two weeks after booking, b)I have a basket in our living room labeled "CRUISE" where I toss things as I think of them, c)I am thinking about bringing the suitcases up from the basement, d) Packing? B and C.
Question H: As well make our lists of what to bring, please share one item we might forget or not think to put in our suitcase that you find helpful when on vacation or on a cruise.
Well, I can tell you what I am NOT bringing which in this case is just as important as what TO bring. I am LEAVING THIS COMPUTER AND ALL THINGS TO DO WITH EMAIL at home. I am UNplugging! Yep!! YOU HEARD ME WORLD!!!! 2011 was just TOO busy and I can't wait to focus 100% on my family. It will be hard, I know I am addicted, but I just think I need this!!

Can't wait to read every one else's answers!!

We have our documents!
We are doing WDW after the cruise.

Ok, I will go first in my next post!

A - Toy Story
B - Pluto
C - Walkin on board for our first cruise.
D - Root beer is my refreshing drink of choice.
E - Relax and enjoy. Don't stress about doing it "all".
F - Get passports out of bank box.
G - Always ready! When I get home from one trip I refill my toiletries and am ready for the next trip. Our take with list in in Word. I have a tote bag I put things in as I think of them. I write everything down as I think of it if I am not at home.
H -Ginger and Bonine.

E - Relax and enjoy. Don't stress about doing it "all"

I know, I know, that will be hard for me this first time, I know I'm going to wish we had a whole week!! It's going to go by so fast!

Hi all! Just found this thread. We'll be on the cruise (me, DH, DD6, and DS 4.5) We'll be there for our 10 year anniversary! Doing 5 nights at BCV before our trip. I need TIPS!!!!! Someone explain this door magnet thing to me!

Have any of you heard of fish extenders?? Want to start an exchange?

MMPeters and Disney Tiger - This is our first Disney Cruise too. So I am learning with you! Here's the deal on the door magnets. There are these angelic people on here that call themselves DISigners, and they will kindly DISign graphics for you to print off at home and turn into magnets to decorate your stateroom door. I can imagine this is both fun and practical as I hate to try to remember my room number after a couple of glasses of wine! Here is a link to the thread where you'll find lots of examples and may find ideas of what to ask for. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2745821 After you've looked through the posts and see what they can do, just post your own request and they will magically appear within a few days! It may be helpful to name a DISigner in your request, I'm not sure. But I love mine! I've printed them on photo paper and they are beautiful! I just have to figure out how to transform them into magnets and there are some different thoughts out on the threads about the best way to do that because it seems with the doors being painted so often we need stronger magnets... I think for now I will mount them on something sturdier so they are a couple mm thick, and then go and find the magnets to glue on them. I know there is magnet printer paper but I think I read that those weren't quite strong enough lately... anyway, have fun with it!

I know it sounds so fun, but I am with a big group, 18 of us, so I hate to do it and not include them and I mean this in the nicest possible way, but this just wouldn't be their thing... they are fun people but I'm not sure they would get it. I suspect they think I'm a bit nuts for obsessing like I am on our cruise, but SOMEBODY has too!! They will thank me in the end (I hope!) And if they don't, I don't care because it's fun to obsess a little!

But you guys should do it!! And on that note, what is the roll call for those that have chimed in here? If you started getting people to register NOW for a FE exchange, you might get a dozen or so... could be fun!!

Mousetrip thank you for the info...I will look into the magnets. We have been watching all the youtube videos of the ship with the kids. If you haven't seen any of them they are a very fun way to get even more excited! Here is my attempt at the quiz....

Question A: Favorite Disney Movie?
-Lion King, Mary Poppins, The Little Mermaid

Question B: Number one character you'd like to be photographed with?
-My girls with Mickey Mouse

Question C: Favorite Memory in the parks or on a ship?
-We will see....

Question D: Favorite cocktail to make in your room/on your verandah/to order on the ship.... please include a recipe if you know it!
-We will see....

Question E: Best tourist tip to share with the rest of us about our upcoming adventure.
-Haven't been yet but I read that there aren't very many plugs in the rooms...I read somewhere to bring an extension cord and/or one of those outlet splitters. I thought that was s good tip.

Question F: What is next on your to-do list to get ready for the trip?
-Start packing/shopping for the trip

Question G: Describe your packing status: a)All packed and have been since two weeks after booking, b)I have a basket in our living room labeled "CRUISE" where I toss things as I think of them, c)I am thinking about bringing the suitcases up from the basement, d) Packing? -c

Question H: As well make our lists of what to bring, please share one item we might forget or not think to put in our suitcase that you find helpful when on vacation or on a cruise.
-See answer to E

Ok, so judge me if you like, but I went to Goodwill this morning, just looking for maybe a Hawaiian shirt or something. It's amazing how you can find like new items there for just a few bucks (and after paying off the cruise, that's about what I'm down too! lol

Anyway, in the "tie section" if there is such a thing, right in the front, was a Mickey Mouse/Goofy/Donald FOOTBALL tie. Good as new! I could not believe it! Especially since we have dinner reservations at Palo on Superbowl Sunday!! And it was a whopping $2. So.... now I just have to talk the DH into wearing it. He HATES novelty ties. But come on... Superbowl Sunday, on a Disney Cruise, and you have to wear a tie... if there EVER was a case to be made for wearing a novelty tie, I would say this is the ONE!! Wouldn't you?

I agree! Perfect tie for the perfect occasion.
I wonder if they will have a Super Bowl party.

I asked in a new thread a week or so ago and the word is that in the past they put the game up on the big screen on the main deck above the pool and have a buffet of tailgaiting-ish food. Sounds fun to me!!:cheer2:
