boards ever have trouble getting your questions answered?

I post mostly over here because I live in CA and have an AP and go to Disneyland much more but I DO go to DW once every 3 years (although with the economy the way it is going and what I fear I am going to have to pay for my airfare this may be my last trip for a LONG time). Anywho, I don't really go over there much when I am not planning a trip but once I DO start to get close I go over quite a bit to ask questions and esp this year I have gone over there because I am planning a trip at, god forbid, Thanksgiving!

I KNOW it is going to be NUTS and we want to try to go to Candlelight Procession which luckily isn't quite as bad as DL because they have much more shows but still I don't know the whole procedure and we want to go to Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party etc etc. But since I have never been there during holiday season I need lots of advice. Well I have made several posts and I either get NO replies or I get RUDE replies and people say I should just do a search because these things have all been talked about before. Well I don't know about you but that search feature has never worked for me on these boards.

Have any of you ever had this problem when you have gone to the DW boards? I don't know why they are so unhelpful. I mean I thought that is what these boards were for was to help people out? Everyone on this board has always been so helpful and nice but I can't seem to get ANY help over there.

The DW boards scare me. But then again, WDW scares me.

I always ask and WDW questions on the UK planning boards. The folks there are just as knowledgable and are very friendly.

I go to both resorts and have been posting on both sites too...I personally haven't found what you said to be true, but I'm not trying to minimize your experience with getting questions answered either! As a native Californian, and a former CM at DL - I can appreciate, however, the vast differences between the 2 resorts. I love them both - but of course DL is first and foremost in my heart. It IS the original, afterall!!!

I've been to WDW in Nov. and Dec. both as a family and by myself, and you're right, it will be NUTS there - but really only during the actual week of and the week following Thanksgiving - and then again between like Dec. 15 & Jan 4ish. The rest of Dec. is fairly light to medium, and earlier in Nov. is too, except for Veteran's Day weekend.

Candlelight is very different at WDW, you're right, since there are many, many more performances. At WDW CL is at EPCOT, not the MK - first BIG difference. They have it in the covered pavillion outside of the American Adventure. Since there are so many nights, there are MULTIPLE guest narrators. I went once, and that time it was Lou Diamond Phillips. There are 2 performances each night...and if you go for the combined dinner package, you get priority seating for a specific performance - but be warned, your "dinner" could very well be at 2:30 for the 5-6 show (not sure of this year's times), or a more reasonable 4:30-6 for the later show (like 8 or 9, I think).

MVMCP is lots of fun, too. I think you know, but it's a hard-ticket event, so it'll cost you extra...regular admission won't get you in. They usually won't release the actual schedule for that until May or June (the halloween one hasn't been announced yet - typically in April). Dates closer to Christmas naturally tend to sell out faster, but I don't believe they have the same kind of completely sold out nights like the halloween one does. These events are pricey though, so be ready for it - I think I read that the halloween one this year is going to be $49, or thereabouts. The MK is open, with most attractions available, but not all. Usually the most popular, and a few lesser ones for crowd dispersement. The big attraction at Christmas, outside of the wonderful decorations, is the Christmas Parade that they run during the party - and of course the special holiday version of Wishes.

As for the rude. Therer are people like that EVERYWHERE!!! We, in DL board can cheerfully refer people to stickies like Hydroguys!! Helpful and nice!!

I've had the same issues on the WDW boards, so when I am planning a trip there, I just read pages of info until I find what I need.

Amy--I'm going to WDW in November (basically for the first time--was there when I was a teenager and there was just Magic Kingdom only) so we will need to trade tips on the Ladies' Only trip!

I agree. When I would post questions about our first trip over there, I would have to bump the threads up a couple times before I got one or two answers. That's why I like here so much better! :thumbsup

i am always on the wdw boards and i would be glad to help you with anything. i am now currently on the dl boards because of my upcoming dl trip in june and everyone has been so helpful. i was an ap holder last year and i went to wdw on 6 trips. one of my favorite ones was the dec. trip! we were not planning on the processional and just walked over to see it and it was one of our favorite things. you cannot miss the osborne lights at hollywood studios. be sure and get a photopass made there, the pictures are beautiful! whenever we were watching one of the shows @ MK, we said,"you know we will probably have to come down during dec. next year cause nothing compares to it!" it is so magical! feel free to ask away! i can talk about disney all day long!

Stopher: I found out after I booked my trip Nov.1-8 that it is something called "Jersey Week"--so now I'm worried that it is going to be a lot busier than I anticipated. Do you know anything about this "Jersey Week" and whether I need to anticipate some alternatives to deal with large crowds?

Hello! I am a WDW vet - I've been well over 30 times, and usually go 4 times a year or so. I haven't really noticed people on the WDW boards being rude, but I do see when people say to 'do a search'. They never work for me, either!

I'm over here on the DL boards planning a very quick (1 day! ) trip to DL before I head up to San Francisco for a week. I've only been once, two years ago, so I'm over hear gathering some info on things I probably missed then. But, I would be SO GLAD to help you with any planning or questions you might have. And don't worry so much about going on Thanksgiving. You think that's bad? I had a mind lapse two weeks ago and somehow decided I am going to spend Fourth of July weekend at WDW! Talk about crazy! LOL

Anyway, I am also heading down to the World in October and for a long weekend in December to see all of the Christmas stuff. I've been there in December several times, so if you need any help with holiday questions, I'd be glad to help. Like, for instance, you absolutely HAVE to go to MVMCP. It's so much fun! But the trick is to make sure you spend that whole day relaxing and taking it easy - maybe going to Downtown Disney (DTD) and/or swimming at your hotel. Then at 4:00 they will let you into the MK with your MVMCP ticket - you don't need to use up a day's admission on your regular ticket. So you'll be able to get in a little earlier than the party starts to start enjoying some rides before all of the wonderful holiday shows. And make sure you make an ADR at one of the table service restaurants ASAP if you want a sit down dinner. My personal favorite is Liberty Tree Tavern (I can tell you more about that if you'd like). But if you prefer to go the CS (counter service) route, make sure you do so before the party starts, because once it does, most of the CS places shut down and it's really hard to find something to eat!

As I said above, I've been to WDW zillions of times, and since I happen to be from Jersey, I can help you out with this one, too! 'Jersey Week' is because teachers in our state have a Convention the second week of November every year. Every school in the state is shut down Thursday and Friday of that week, so some parents take advantage of the already shortened week and pull their kids out of school for that Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and head down to the World. You might notice a slight raise in crowds, but it would be very unnoticable unless you go to WDW often. You have to figure that it's really just NJ that has this time off, and not every state in the country, so it really doesn't affect the crowds that much. HTH!

I actually frequent the theme park tips/touring board (id=2), so.. i might be unhelpful, I dunno.

I used to also monitor the traveling and restaurant and resort forums but it gets to be a bit much.

It was so hard planning my WDW trip on many levels. (could that be because I did 3 1/2 days )

I did a day trip the day after Thanksgiving a few years ago and heard it was the busiest day that week. We were in MK and found it not unbearabley busy. We heard that Wednesday and Thanksgiving though were dead according to the CM's we talked too.

Question for all of you who are familiar with DLR and WDW--am I crazy or is the tolerance levels for lines, etc. less at WDW? I've heard comments on other forums where WDW people have said . . . "it was unbearably busy--we had to wait 15, maybe 20 minutes in line, it was awful" etc. etc. etc.

To me--15-20 minutes in line at DLR is NOTHING. So not wanting to start a "park-war" here but have the impression, which may be wrong, that when WDW people say it is really "busy" at WDW, that compared to a "busy" day at DLR it's really not.

Does that make sense? Is this a valid observation or am I totally off base?

I have been to WDW only twice and mostly had short lines, 5 to 20 minutes, except fo EE and Test Track, both of those were more the 45 time line. It seemed to me that many more people at DL are FP savvy, and very few take advantage of it at WDW. So, while I am zipping up the FP line, the standby line is HUGE!!!

Since I go to DL so much, we really don't spend as much time at MK which always strikes me as PACKED!!! Lines aren't that long, but all the walkways seem crowded!! (by lost people with strollers clogging the area).
Kind of like DL in the areas around PoC. LInes not that long, but hoards of people.

So, don't really have a answer to the question since I have been to DL wwhenit is pretty crowded, say August, but have only been to WDW in September and January!!!

Like Grumpyvet said, I am hardly an expert having been to DL only once, but I think it depends with WDW. Like, when I go on the 4th of July weekend, if I see 20 minute waits, it will be a miracle. But when I went this past February, I would have been a little on the cranky side to see 20 minute waits, as that is supposed to be a 'slower' time of year (at least the first part of the month).

So it could be that we're more intolerant of long waits, but who knows. But I have to agree with Grumpyvet again - the MK is always packed with people wandering and strollers everywhere - there is just not enough space to hold them all! That's how it was in Feb - tons and tons and TONS of people - but not more than 5 minute ride waits.

You're not the only one! I've had some rather rude comments too. I've been to WDW many times, but never "planned" as obsessively as some people do. (DH would plan obsessively if I let him...!) There was no DDP the last time I was there (or if there was, I didn't know about it since I didn't buy a package through Disney). Since we have APs and live in Southern Cal, we tend to tour DL in a much more casual way, and rarely make PS except for character meals, and not even always then! (I've had great luck getting into Ariel's Grotto at 2ish!)

We're going in November as well! We should trade tips that we find. The first part of our trip will be Jersey Week (oops! I didn't know about that!). Oh well, whaddya gonna do? Then we're taking the 4 night DCL cruise, and returning to WDW for 3 more days for a total of 6 park days.

I can't get the search to work either. Love the idea from the poster about using Google! Awesome! I have no problem reading lots of information, but it can be hard to find.

I don't have any personal experience with Jersey Week - but, while I could be off here, in the quick research I did it appears to be a Fall Break kind of thing for New Jersey folks - and any number of which go to WDW. Growing up in So. Cal we never experienced a "Fall Break" (basically a week off school like Spring Break) until we moved to the midwest. Fall Breaks are huge in the MW and on the East coast - I've lived in two different states in the MW now for more than 8 years, and still don't understand the reasoning for it!!! Oh well... In IN F.B. is usually in mid-October, so having it the 1st week of Nov. in other states doesn't surprise me.

Let me just say, though, that I've been there that exact same week in previous years, and didn't experience massive crowding at all. Your worst times @ WDW really are going to President's Weekend, Spring Break (various weeks), Memorial Day through the 4th (including Star Wars Weekends), Labor Day weekend +/-, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas as I previously said. Obviously there are no guarantees, but you should be okay that week. There are so many things to do and places to be at WDW now that unless you are there for a major holiday, it won't feel like M.S. at DL waiting for the fireworks or the snow in the height of summer or Christmas.
