Do admission rates go up every year?

In the Unofficial Guide, it says that rates for DL generally go up the first Sunday in August (or something like that). Is this true? We are planning on going in mid September, but I'd rather not buy tickets now if I don't have to. Does anyone have experience with this? When was the last time their rates went up?

I think they are referring mostly to Disney World, which does experience a price adjustment each August, so lots of people are buying WDW passes right now, but they don't expire like the DL ones do. The DL ones you are buying today or this fall, are only good through the end of this year or into January. Then DL issues next year's batch of tickets. So they really do the tickets differently. I think you are safe in waiting to buy yours. That's my understanding anyways.

The tickets I just bought and used for DL were only good through fall of 2009. With WDW, I could buy a ticket today and not use it until 2010 if I wanted (as long as I didn't use a single day on it, it wouldn't expire, but once I used one day, then that 14 day expire clock starts).

Hope I didn't confuse you more. LOL.

The prices went up the last two years around Aug. 3-5. I would buy now if you know you are going.

ETA: Maybe the person I was talking to was refering to APs??

When are you going? DL tickets do expire so you'd need to take that into account. And yes, prices have gone up over the last 2 years that I've been on the boards.

Yes, that is my understanding for Disneyland. Their tickets do expire, so you'd want to check that prior to buying DL tickets far in advance. If you are going June 2010, you will probably not find tickets today for those dates.

For WDW, you can buy them far, far, far in advance. They have rather different ticket methods.

Even though it seems like it is the common belief that DLR will, indeed, raise their ticket prices this year, there were two reasons why I questioned it:

First of all, the last time we got e-tickets for my friend (for trips to DLR at the end of 2008), the expiration date on the ticket was January 2010, not 2009. So that led me to believe that the prices may stay as is throughout this year and not increase until 2010; and

Second, since a BIG allure for the FREE Birthday celebration is the Fun Card, which is valued as $69 - or the equivalent of the one-day/one-park ticket - if they suddenly increase the price by, let's say, $3.00, does that mean that everyone who gets a Fun Card after the increase will now have $72 to spend rather than $69? It just seemed like it would be more fair to everyone if they kept the price of the one-day/one-park ticket the same all year long so everyone got the same 'gift value.'

So that said, I am sure they will find a way to raise prices this year anyway, but those two things got me wondering if they actually will, or may just wait until early 2010.

The prices do not always go up at the same time of year, contrary to popular belief on the DIS. When we were at DLR in late September 2007 (I think it was 9/21/07, as I recall), the ticket prices had JUST gone up a few hours before we arrived on that very day. In fact, the CM at the ticket booth told me that if we had gotten there just a few hours earlier, we could have gotten the cheaper Park Hopper, but we were too late. In fact, their computer system was still trying to adjust to the new prices and was causing problems for people trying to upgrade Hoppers because it was reading the wrong (old) prices. But then, last year, 2008, the prices went up in August, didn't they??

Cool, Thanks for the info :)

should be right after labor day, they will jump the price. Why they do it in September, i dont know why...

Sherry, you got that '07 date exactly right. It was the day AFTER we upgraded. We got lucky, you did not. :(:hug:

And yes, August last year, which I know b/c the prices went up right around the time that we had our renewal roll around, but for some bizarroland reason, we were being offered more than the usual renewal, and it would have only cost the SAME as it had in '07. We decided not to renew and then the $30 off online AP came out, so I got the same deal that I would have if I'd renewed (then hubby and son went and lost their APs and only came out $10 total, each, ahead of the game). OK, I'm digressing.

Sherry, WDW is raising prices and they have the same Fun Card issue as DLR would...
