I am a teacher, which means we are pretty set to regular vacation times; summer, spring break, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. However, I am moving to a new school next year that has a different schedule - which includes a week off in October!!! WooHoo!!! So, we are thinking about an October vacation instead of a Thanksgiving or Christmas vacation. We will have the week before Halloween, Oct 23-29. Any guesses of crowds at that time compared to Thanksgiving or Christmas? I've been reading other posts that say the crowds are pretty heavy most times, but I would pass on Christmas decorations if it meant less crowds in October. Do a lot of schools have October breaks? If we went for like 4/5 days, would it be better to go at the beginning of the week or closer to Halloween? I don't think we would do the Halloween party as our 2 boys are very early to bed and with the time change, I don't see them staying up very late. Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

I don't know of any So. Cal districts that have an October break. Should be fairly quiet that week.

Figment_jii goes to great effort to keep all the info provided organized for everyone to see.
The first posting is events at DLR and the second posting is the information on various schools.

Yep. I work at a place frequented by out of state tourists. We get inundated by Fall breaks, and most of the people I talk to mention at least a day at Disney. Plus there will be Halloween parties that week, so you either end up with the park closing early or people going on the other day to avoid the early closure day. DCA isn't affected as much because there's really no Halloween stuff happening there anymore.

We have fall break but it is the first 2 weeks of october this time. I have been the week of halloween, though it has been several years. My experience was the day before halloween and the day of were much more crowded and the halloween parties were much fuller those 2 nights. That being said, this was 5 years ago when there used to be slow days at the park and seeing a slow day at disney now is like seeing a unicorn.

I'm in the bay area and my kids don't have an October break, but most of the neighboring school districts do.

AZ and Utah schools have October breaks.w as at DL last year 2 weels before Halloween and it was crowded. I was told it
just got busier as it got close to Halloween. I still do not think it was as busy as Christmas but there were more people than
expected and quite long lines

Yes, our schools (AZ) pretty much all do a fall break now, and a LOT go to Disney. California has a lot of kids-go-free specials in October, which is a draw. We did Legoland (ick), the San Diego Zoo, and the beach last October break. (but only because we couldn't afford Disney...)

We were there that same week last year. Friday through Monday were crazy busy. Monday shocked the heck out of me with the longest lines I've ever experienced at bag check. Tuesday through Thursday were lovely.

If you are out of school, I can guarantee others are as well. I do think fall breaks are more common than ever before, but I think the majority are early to mid October.

Almost all of Arizona schools have a week off in October usually around Columbus Day. We like to refer it as "Az goes to Disneyland week."

It will NOT be quiet. But it will be less crowded than Spring Break, summer, or Christmas. It's a lot of funn

All schools in Utah are closed October 20-23 this year. It's widely known as Utah Escapes to Anaheim weekend.

It used to be the case that all Utah schools were closed, but not anymore. Most of the larger districts do close, but many of those outside the Wasatch Front have teachers who do not belong to the UEA. Our district doesn't even have a fall break this year.

For the OP, I expect most fall breaks to happen earlier in the month, but still expect decent crowds. I love to go in Oct. The weather & decorations are fabulous! Enjoy your break.

Our schools don't have a break per se in Oct. but here in Athens (home of the Georgia bulldogs) all schools are off the Friday before Halloween because of the Georgia/Florida football game, even the University breaks down and closes. They used to try to stay open but the students left anyway so now they close.
