Do a lot of resale contracts come up this time of year?

I’m a new member, but will probably be buying another contract at some point (resale). I’ve noticed there are masses of resale contracts available right now. Is this because dues are due in January? Do there always tend to be more contracts available at this time of year?

I think a lot of people who have not been using their DVC points have a moment when their dues statement arrives about whether they want to keep the membership. Just a theory.

Additionally I would add that annual dues statements tend to remind people that even with DVC, WDW vacations are still expensive. Adding food, transportation, and park tickets to the cost of the maintenance fees makes some re-evaluate whether yearly trips to Disney is a good idea.

I’ve only been looking at resales since Sept, but everyone kept saying more contracts would come on the market around this time and prices would drop.

This year may be different with all the park improvements coming and the big price increase announcement. I feel like there were more contracts being added when I first started looking in the fall versus now. And prices haven’t really gone down, although contracts don’t seem to be selling as fast, so there may be more room for negotiation with some sellers (I’ve also experienced sellers staying firm with the price increases coming up. I think some sellers also will continue renting points if they don’t get the price they want).

I agree. Since it's easy to rent points (to cover dues and perhaps much of a monthly finance charge), there's less incentive to sell. Makes sense to me that a good share of those looking to sell will wait to see what impact the direct price increase will have on resale.

I would agree with this theory for the spike in resale listings January to April each calendar year. Once the dues statement arrives I believe a lot of members start to considering selling if they haven't used it for 12 months or longer.
