We are just putting the final stages on all of our planning for our first big cruise! Please hit me with all of yours dos and don’ts for arriving at port in a timely manner by car (staying at cocoa beach Hilton the night before). Getting everyone, 3 adults and two youngsters, out of the vehicle and checked in with DCL. And then last but not least waiting around for the opportunity to board the ship, we plan on leaving the hotel early.

More info the better!!

My best suggestion is to start your vacation as soon as you enter the cruise terminal. We all spend the days before our cruise planning every little detail and sometimes get so wrapped up in it that we forget to have fun!

On a more practicle note, take turns looking around the terminal! It is a pretty nifty place!

We took turns looking aroung too. DH got in line while went with DD to look at the model of the ship and look around the port. There are also cartoons playing and quite a few couches to relax on too. DD then took DH around to show him everything. It does kill a little time.

Also talk to the people in line next to you.

We utilized our 2 way radios. I stood in line while DH walked around with the kids. When I needed him to show his ID, I paged him-otherwise I could handle all the checking in. DH brought his laptop computer and some DVD's for the kids to watch. I stood in line to board (which was much longer after 9/11 due to increased security) and DH and the kids found couches where they could see me when I came around-then they got in line with me. I also brought snacks and juice boxes to keep them happy. We found that the welcome aboard buffets didn't have too much our kids like-so I make sure they eat before we board.

Tay N Evie's Mom -- I love the idea of using the walkies to keep in touch in the terminal. DD & I have a bad case of line impatience, while DH is unfazed by even the longest line at Space Mountain! I will have him queue up while she & I explore and he can call me when he needs me...this is such a great solution, thanks! The laptop/DVD idea is super, too, although I have been FORBIDDEN by the other members of my family to bring mine. :)
