This might be a dumb question, but how much does this cost per person?? Have never used this service and were flying for the first time next March and was wondering. I've heard that you can do it for arrival and if you don't want it for departure you can do this!!! I've also heard that is takes approximately 60-90 minutes to get back to the resort, would it be faster to take a taxi and how much would that cost???

Thanks everyone for the patience???

This is available to anyone who stays at a Walt Disney World Resort! Yes it is free! When we took it last I dont recall how long it took! I dont think it was 60- 90 minutes but I could see how it could be since they try to fill the bus up before they leave. A cab I would think would be expensive a limo from the airport to the hotel is apprx $100! DME is free so even if it took 60 minutes why not do it? I'll be taking DME in a day! So if I remember I will track it from when we get in line until we get to our hotel we are at ASMU! I'll let you know! :thumbsup2 When you book youre disney resort you tell them that you would like DME and they will set it up for you!!! You will get your luggae tags for Dme and your vouchers apprx 3weeks prior to your trip date!!!

with DME, you also don't need to go and wait for and claim your luggage.

you probably do gain a time advantage taking a private car/taxi, but it's gonna cost you financially. you know, that whole time is money thing.

:)

Thanks everyone for the information. Sounds like we'll do the DME in March. We're in no rush the day we arrive because we aren't going to the parks that day anyway. It sounds so easy. I hope it is!!! The kids will love it going on a big bus again and especially since the characters are on the side of it. Thanks again for the information;)

DME was seamless for us just last week. We were a party of 9 traveling and what a pleasure to not have to worry about luggage with 3 children in tow. We landed at 9:30 am and were at the Boardwalk by 11:00 with one stop at CBR. It probably took us 20mins. of that time to get to the shuttle, check in and board the bus.:thumbsup2

You do have to plan on tips coming home. It mostly depends on what carrier you fly. When you check your bags at the checkin desk, tips are expected for the BAGs employees handling your bags. And if you are using an airline that does not participate in sending your bags to the airport directly and your bags must be loaded on the DME bus, you need to tip the driver too. I never knew that the airline folks working at the resort check in desk were not cast members. Later someone posted that they were employees for a contract company called BAGs.

OP is from Canada.. so I am pretty sure they hanve to pick up their bags and take them to the bus

I was wondering if anyone can answer this question. My husband and I will be travelling to Disney in May and staying at SSR. My sister and her husband will be coming down the day after we are and are staying with us. However my sister's niece is going to be travelling with them but not staying with us at the resort (her parents are divorced and she will be staying with him) is she able to use the Magical Express? Her father will be meeting us at the parks though.

Only people specifically named on the reservation at a WDW owned-and-operated resort are eligible to use DME. People arriving on different days is fine, just make sure it's noted that way on the DME reservation and resort reservation. But sorry, your sister's niece isn't eligible to take DME.

If Orlando is their first point of entry into the US they will have to claim their bags at the international gate and take them through customs. There is then a conveyer belt where they drop their bags and the bags are transported to the main terminal. If the bags have yellow tags on them, that's where the DME folks grab the international bags.

Now going back to the airport, yes the guest will have to take their bags on the bus and check in at the airport.

I know the DME is taking some Canadian flights but that won't effect us because were going through Buffalo so it will be from the US and most likely Southwest.

I'm wondering if Canadians will have to take there bags through customs because when we are at Toronto airport we go through customs there on the US side in the airport. So we technically are entering US the minute we head to the plane.

OK! It was Peak Season Spring Break just back! Today! It was horribly crowded! I decided never again will I go then! I guess I got spoiled by Halloween! Well as to answer youre question! I am counting from DME check In and waiting in line for our bus to arriving at our destination which was ASMU ! It took apprx 60 minutes total! Our line was very busy as it was spring breaks lots of bands and games going on we had a softball team in line behind us 22 girls! YIKES! Needless to say they finished off our bus! LOL! It took about 15 minutes at the DME counter it was very busy! It took maybe 10 minutes in line and the rest was travel time! Our bus driver Jordan was very friendly!! We stopped 1st at All Star Sports then 2nd at All Star Music then it went on 3rd to All Star Movies! So hopefully this helps.:)

I'm assuming you will have to do it again when you arrive at orlando because if you ever been to orlando an d see how they do things where you arrive at and youre security check are way away from each other and there is no way for them to know you from anyone else and there is no way I can see just being back today for you to pheasbily get through without a security check!
They are very thorough with there checks so I'm going to opt to say you WILL have to do it yet again! Sorry if thats not what you wanted to hear! I could be wrong but I'm going to say my best guess would be YES YOU WILL HAVE TO DO IT ONCE AGAIN.:sad2:

I don't think I've ever heard of someone who's already cleared customs in Toronto having to do it again in Orlando. That would be like telling someone flying out of Buffalo that they would have to clear customs again in Orlando because they're Canadian. There's a difference between security checks and customs.

If the passengers all cleared customs in Toronto then the plane will land at a US gate and no one on the plane will have to go through customs again.

However, due to the way MCO is designed, if a plane lands at the international gate then yes, the passengers will go through customs AND will have to go through security again.

Wanted to update everyone on my situation. I called DME the other day and explained the situation and they put the little girl on the reservation with no problem. Sometimes it does not hurt to ask
