DME won't pull your luggage after 11pm??

Why doesn't someone call DME and see if they are still blaming the airport for an unknown policy change that just doesn't happen to be and see what other excuse they may give for not picking up luggage. It could be they have read the posts and found out they cannot make this one fly so have reverted to a new policy or just continued picking up the luggage after 11:00 PM.

I am sure someone at DME has seen these posts and the airport reply to their supposedly new policy that is not in effect. Someone call DME and challenge them.

That's the problem Edd is we can't get a straight answer from DME. At least two of us have called. I got the answer that yep, our luggage will be picked up, but would be delivered in the morning.

I think the OP called and got the answer that nope, they don't get your luggage after 11pm.

So once again, Disney's Carousel of Policy and their frontline folks that answer the phone don't know what's going on.

Just to double check I called DME again today and "Rose" told me that yes, DME would get your bags for you no matter what time your flight arrived, but it may take several hours. She said most guests want to get their own bags that late because they don't want to be woke up in the middle of the night. (She didn't mention anything about the next morning).

Let me try this. I am going to send your last message to the airport and see if he will give me the number of his DME contact. I think her name is Debbie. If he gives me her telephone number I will call her and see if I can get anything on the situation.

Great, I would bet we may be changing some phraseology put out by Disney. You know if you are getting in late what do you need to hit the sack. I am afraid I wouldn't even wake up if they tried to call me at 0300. So I don't think it is a real big deal. You will get your bags the next morning and that still is the Disney magic. Just pack enough to last to the next morning in a carry on. How many times do you really unpack when you get in a hotel room at 0100 in the morning, anyway.

I guess it really depends on how early they can bring my bags the next morning. We may be sleeping in, but Disney-style, and that means up at probably 8 am. I would like to have it by that time.

Personally, I would not have minded a knock on the door at 2 or 3 am as I would have felt more a relief that our bags were with us. I'm a worrier...

I have not received an answer back from the Airport. They probably don't want to comment because they have to deal with Disney and Mears. I have been told there is a definite cut back in the number of DME employees after 9:00 pm. In fact I watched a Midwest carousel last night and it must have made 5 or 6 rounds before the Disney tagged bags (10 -20 bags) started disappearing (CM's getting to the bags to pull them off).

When I talked to the Midwest rep he told me that it seems like the Disney tagged baggs are getting out in the front carousel a lot more than they used to be, meaning there are not CM's behind the wall pulling the bags as fast as they used to. The norm is that you never see the Disney tagged bags unless one or two just slipped past the CMs.

HMMMM.. Maybe we'll just get our own luggage, to play it safe.

OP Here...sorry I am slow getting to the boards sometimes : final semester of nursing school, coming up on a final exam for this rotation.

Anyway, I did, in fact, call DME to ask about the policy. Twice. Once I told them what happened that night, they told me that this is a policy, then put me on hold, then came back and said yes, it is a new policy.

I called back a second time, a few days ago, and was put on hold very briefly, then told that you can choose to get your own bags, but don't have to. ?!

I wish I got an emailed answer, so we could print it out. Hard for the DME counter to send you back for your luggage, if you have, in writing from DME, that you don't HAVE TO!

After reading this, I don't think i would trust Disney to pick up the bags for delivery the next day even if they say they would. Geez, I'm not looking forward to picking up the lugggage for six people plus the carryons, at Midnight.

The only thing I don't like about this scenario is the greater chance for theft. If it becomes general public knowledge that DME bags are not getting picked off the carousel in a timely fashion, then anyone could wait in baggage claim and specifically wait for the opportunity of CM's not present and grab your luggage. I might have to seriously reconsider using DME in the future.

I was thinking the same thing about theft.

The other concern was - and I know this makes me sound extremely cheap - but the fact that I wanted to utilize DME to the fullest by having them deliver my bags, no matter what time they delivered if it was in the middle of the night or early early morning. However, if we must pick up our bags then we are obligated to tip everyone who handles our bags, even tho this was not my choice in the first place. :confused3

Talked with the airport today. They have a meeting tomorrow, with Disney, and plan to discuss the fact that the Disney DME employees said the reason for you to pick up your luggage was a new airport policy. They confirmed there is no new airport policy and their displeasure at Disney putting it that way. If you are hearing anything more about a new airport policy from DME. please let me know about it and I will be able to trace it down at the airport.

Thank you Edd for looking into all of this.

I was just wondering...how are you able to find this information out? Do you work for Disney or at MCO? Just curious. Thanks!

I am independent, do not work for Disney or MCO. I have worked with GOAA officials over 10 years now and have pushed all my efforts for the betterment of the airport. As an outsider I have been able to say and do the right things at the right times, so enjoy a little bit of influence with the right officials. Especially in ground transportation and future planning.

EDD, guess what?! there is now another thread from someone told the same thing...had to go back, get their bags, tired kids and all. They were told the new policy was TSA, and had started that VERY DAY. Oh, and were told 11:30pm (I had been told 11pm...and got to that desk very shortly after 11pm).

I read that post (thank you for the link) and I am still very worried about our upcoming trip in June when we are scheduled to arrive at 10:58 pm....:sad2:

I have just found out who the DME reps are at the airport. They were not to friendly with me, maybe because they know who I am or because I attended the meeting for the first time and was a stranger. However, I will shortly get to know them and be able to find out more about what is happening. It is possible I will be able to talk to them next Friday as the "A" side will be reconfigured and that will be the first day for the busses to use the designated lanes in the middle of the commercial lanes. I am sure they will be out there to observe what is happening.

Another poster earlier wondered what Tyler had to say about this situation. I wish he would chime in on his thoughts....

Could there have been a TSA misunderstanding lasting perhaps three days, where DME baggage handling was disrupted?

How many people just checked in at the DME welcoming area at 11:30 or so and got on the bus and, next morning found out that they "shoulda" fetched their yellow tagged luggage from the carousel themselves? What next?

1. Were they told to just go enjoy the parks and the concierge made the bags magically appear in their room later in the day?

2. Would the concierge have DME'd the guest back to the airport to fetch the luggage and the welcoming area DME's him back to the resort with the baggage under the bus? (and also Disney DME'd the party home normally after check out whenever)?

Disney hints: http://members.aol.com/ajaynejr/disney.htm

Several months earlier I hinted that, while retrieving yellow tagged luggage was not possible before 11 PM, it was mandatory after 11 PM. I added that it was counterproductive since the bus would have to wait until the guests got back from the carousel. I was promptly corrected by someone saying this never happens.
