DH works for an airline, so we're flying standby for our anniv. trip in Sept.

First Q: If we're flying from SLC to JFK, and then JFK to MCO (different planes, same airline),should we check our luggage and try to use the DME luggage service from SLC, or wait until JFK?
Second Q: What impact does flying standby have (other than the obvious thing of maybe *not* getting on the flight we intend to)?

Any feedback would be appreciated. The last couple of times we flew standby to WDW, we just relied on carry-ons (short trips). But with the "No Liquids" thing, we're thinking we'll have to check luggage. And I hate being slowed down by picking up my luggage--I gotta get to the Magic :wizard: !

Last time we used DME, our flight was cancelled and we arrived on a different flight. Our DME ressie obviously listed a different flight but the process for DME was the same. We checked in at the DME counter at arrival, had them deliver our bags, and they never even mentioned the different flight/arrival time.

Just make sure you make your DME reservation with the flight you hope to be on, bring your DME vouchers for check-in, and put your DME tags on your checked baggage. Have fun!

I called about this question today. If at all possible call with the specific flight you will be on...but as long as you have a ressie you will be fine whether you call ahead or not.

So the connecting flight is not an issue?
When I made the DME ressies, they just asked what flight we were arriving on and departing on. I just have this (perhaps) irrational fear of my stuff ending up in North Dakota.
but actually jetblue doesn't fly *there*... :confused3

If you think you may be arriving lreally late in the evening, specify that as your DME arrival time. There is no penalty or delay if you arrive early.

Then you never have to pick up the six dollar a minute Airfone(tm) from the seatback in front in order to notify DME when no other opportunity was available.
