DME question

Hi all! So excited about our upcoming November Trip . I have a question about DME and this seems like the place to ask it.

We are arriving at MCO at 8:45AM and renting a car to go to LegoLand and Walmart and then returning the car and getting on DME. How do I handle this? Should I just contact Disney customer service about this?

I don't think so. All DME cares about knowing is the date of your arrival. I imagine you plan on being back at the airport later in the evening.that should be fine.

Yes, I am assuming I should be back at the airport around 8/9 pm. Should I still use the luggage tags or just pick up my luggage?

That's a toss up. You are using DME, so it shouldn't be an issue. I would use them, and let DME move the bags for you. But I would also have a note added to your reservation that you will be arriving later in the evening. That way when your bags arrive at the resort, and you don't, there won't be any issue.

Have you checked prices for dropping the car off at (or near Disney)? Why return to the airport?

That would have been my suggestion as well, but didn't want to muddy the waters. I would also look into dropping everyone off at the WDW resort, with the bags, and then drive back to MCO to return the car and take DME back if it isn't cheaper to return at WDW.
If you are renting through Alamo/National, there are two offices on Disney property....Car Care Center which will shuttle you back to your resort, and the Dolphin over by Epcot. The Dolphin office closes at 4pm,, but you can still drop off. You just drop the car with valet people.

Honestly I didn't think of this! I haven't even booked a car yet....I will look at this option as well, thanks.

This is our first time going to Disney without a car, so DME is new to me.

I googled the car care center and was able to get reserve an Alamo reservation for $23 for the day; picking up at airport dropping off to the car center. Thanks!!!!

So you and your family will arrive earlier in the day, rent a car at the airport and return it to the car center on property after a day at Legoland? And you are thinking about using the luggage tags and having DME move the luggage without one guest riding the bus?
I wouldn't do this since if any of your luggage is lost or delayed you won't realize it until many, many hours after the fact. This can make it very difficult to track your luggage.
Also, I believe Disney asks that at least one guest ride the bus with the bags, although this seems to be something that is not generally enforced.

Thanks for clearing up my misconception. I use DME 90% of my visits to WDW, but I do carry-on and so have my bag with me on the bus.

I guess my primary point of my post was that with OP gone all day at Legoland, it would be a long time before anyone would notice a missing suitcase (if it did go astray).

Absolutely! I've read one or two posts where a guest rented a car, but tagged their bags. Knowing not to expect their bags for 3-4 hrs, they get checked in at the resort and head to a park....it's still afternoon, so why not? But they return to their room after the park closes. And they find 3 of their 4 bags in the room! No one knew what to expect, so no one looked for the missing bag. By this time, DME contacts the airline who in turn days sorry, too much time has passed, it's now your issue! And it was probably the airline that misdirected the missing bag!
Now.....here's my issue. DME used to ask you how many bags you checked. Then if only some of your bags get scanned, they knew to look for another one, based on the bag number you gave them. Now, they don't ask how many bags you checked. So I have no idea how they will know how many bags to look for.
