Hi!

Heading to Disney on Saturday :cool1:

I have a DME question.... my travel agent forgot to send me my DME luggage tags. She told me that if I give the DME desk my luggage claim receipts from the airlines, my bags will still get picked up and delivered to my room.

I'm concerned if they don't have the yellow DME tags they won't get pulled out. My thought is to pick up my luggage and take it on DME with me.

Has anyone not put the yellow tags on their luggage and still received it through DME?

Thanks!

call dme and ask them

I think you can still do this way - but call them to be sure

you need your reservation number and if you have it the book that your travel agent should have send.

What your TA was saying is that if you give the DME checkin CM your luggage claim receipts as well as a description of your bags, they will send someone to baggage claim to get them and put them on the luggage truck going to your particular resort. So....no, they don't get pulled out before they get to the public baggage carousels.
Or, you can just stop there and get the bags yourself and bring them to the DME checkin counte with you. Then, the bags will go underneath the bus you are riding on, and handed off to you when you reach your resort.

If you're not going until Saturday and your TA simply "forgot" to send them to you, tell your TA to overnight or otherwise deliver the tags to you. It was your TA's mistake. I'd feel better having them on my bags then relying on the bags being pulled later. I have heard that the claim check method works, but that it takes longer.

I wouldn't feel comfortable with not having the tags either.

Not to hijack your thread but, our paperwork was sent to us and our DME tickets came without a ticket for our 18 month old. I called Guest Services and she said it was too late to get a ticket for her but its no big deal bc she is a baby.

Anyone else gotten on without a ticket for a child under 3?

You could put your own colored ribbon or something on your luggage to make it easier for the ME employees to find. Just let them know at the desk that you have added your own kind of marker to the luggage for them when you give them the description of your bags.

Yes. A couple of years ago, my sister got DME "tickets" listing her, her DH, and her DS who was 3. Their DD, who was 14 months old, was not listed. They had no problem getting on the bus for both the trip to the resort and the return to the airport. I'm sure you'll be fine, too.

Is the baby listed on the room reservation? If not, they wouldn't be listed for DME..it's all based on what is on the room reservation. Also, if the baby isn't sitting in her own seat on the plane it could make a difference as well...but it's based more on the room reservation.

Your Disney’s Magical Express reservation has been made; however, you may not receive your Disney’s Magical
Express booklet with luggage tags prior to departure for Orlando. Please be assured that you will still be able to
utilize the service and receive the same seamless experience.
Once you arrive at Orlando International Airport, you have two options:
1) You can pick up your luggage at baggage claim and proceed directly to the Disney
Welcome Center. You will be responsible for taking your luggage with you on the
motor coach.
2) Or you may proceed directly to the Disney Welcome Center. You do not need to claim
your luggage. Disney will gather all of your information and collect your luggage for
you and then deliver it to your resort room.
IMPORTANT: Please pack any valuables, medications or anything needed immediately upon arrival into Orlando in
a carry-on bag.
Arrival at Orlando International Airport. Upon arrival, please take the tram from your gate to the main Terminal
and proceed to the Disney Welcome Center which is located on the B Side on Level 1 and bypass baggage claim.
If you arrive on the A Side, please proceed to the B Side before taking the elevator or escalator down to Level 1.
You may follow the airport signs to Ground Transportation.
At the Disney Welcome Center, please present your airline baggage claim checks to the Disney representative
to confirm the number of bags* checked as well as your return flight information. You will then board a
complimentary motor coach that will take you to your resort. Your motor coach may make up to 3 stops before
arriving at your resort.
Luggage delivery to the resort. Your luggage will be claimed at the airport and delivered to your room. Your
luggage may take up to 3 hours after you check-in to be delivered. You do not need to be in your room to receive
your luggage. Please note if you take your luggage on the motor coach it will not automatically be delivered to
your room.
Returning home. You will receive a Transportation Notice the day prior to check-out advising you of your motor
coach pick-up time and other general information. Your motor coach pick-up time is based on your
flight departure and will be approximately 3 hours prior to that time to allow for multiple stops by
the motor coaches.

I'm with Sandi - it's Monday. Since your TA is at 'fault', there's no valid reason why she CAN'T get the DME packet to you before you leave.

But, as everyone else points out, Disney is prepared for DME Guests who couldn't attach the yellow tags. You'd hardly be the first party to have DME handle your luggage using the claim-tag-number-and-luggage-description method, and you won't be the last.

It is not the TA that sends DME tags but Disney. If the agent entered it early enough the tags would go directly to the client. If it was done later then the tags go to the agency and they would mail them out.

Agreed - but it sounds like the Travel Agent DID receive the DME packet but neglected to forward it; and since there are still four business days between this moment, and the OP's trip, there's no reason why the TA shouldn't/can't get the packet to the OP in time.

It may seem new and strange and "iffy" to you, but it's business as usual for the DME folks. This has been standard procedure since Day One, which was almost 3 years ago. They do it this way every day. Never fear.

Thanks for all the help!

My TA received it and swore she sent it but I pulled the entire package apart and it isn't there.

I think for my own sanity, I'm going to pull my bags and take them on the DME Motorcoach with me.

Just realize that by doing so you'll be delaying your own arrival at your resort. I just want you to make an informed choice.

I'll also take this opportunity to flesh out the process a little. A CM would be dispatched to go to baggage claim and claim your bags for you. The CM will have a physical description of each bag, as well as your baggage claim ticket numbers.

This CM will then take the bags back behond-the-scenes at the airport, print out brand spankin' new DME tags, affix one to each bag, and then send the bags on their merry way with the rest of the DME-tagged bags.

Seriously, in the almost 3 years DME has been around, we've quite literally NEVER read any complaints about using this "Plan B" method. I used DME on its 4th day of operation. I learned about using this alternate method a few days before my trip, when my tags hadn't yet arrived (at the very beginning, they had a lot of printing problems and many people didn't get their tags). I was all prepared to use this Plan B method. But on the afternoon before our departure, our DME tags arrived in snail mail from our clueless travel agent.

Thanks Eric!

That makes me feel better. I really don't want to wait around to pick up my own bags.

I feel better knowing that no one seems to have had a problem checking their luggage without the tags and still getting their bags.

I really appreciate all the insight!!! :thumbsup2

I, too, have a DME question. We will be arriving the evening prior to heading to WDW. Because our flight would not get into Orlando until late evening, we decided to stay at a hotel near the airport and then head to WDW early the next morning, so we don't lose an entire day at the parks. We will be using the DME to get to our hotel. Because we will already have our bags, what do we need to do to meet up with the DME staff? I'm guessing we will need to take our bags onto the bus with us. Will we still be able to store our bags at the hotel if our room is not ready when we arrive?
