DME question (staying at MCO Hyatt night before)

Typically for our annual WDW trip, we arrive at Orlando Airport (MCO) on Southwest about mid-day and get on the DME to the GF. Although we receive the yellow baggage tags, we never use them - we pick up our check-in luggage and wheel it to the DME bus ourselves.

But 3 years ago, we did something different - we arrived late-night at MCO and stayed at the nearby Sheraton via their shuttle. The next morning we took the shuttle (and our baggage) back to the airport Terminal B and got on the DME to the GF, no problem.

For our next trip to the GF this March, we intend to do something similar - we will also arrive late at MCO via Southwest, and this time we will stay at the Hyatt right there in the airport atrium with the intention of going downstairs first thing in the morning (with our baggage) and getting on the DME.

Is there any potential problem with this? Is this still OK or have things changed in 3 years? (I'm concerned that riding on the DME may be absolutely tied in with flight arrivals)

As far as I know you are still fine, but what you should do is pick a flight (any flight) that is arriving the morning you want to take DME. As long as you go get your luggage like you did in the past, it will be like you just got off flight XX and went to ME to check in.

Contact the Hyatt. They have a service for folks in exactly your position, where they (the Hyatt) will get your bags for you and then transfer them to DME for you.

OK Thanks, (although because we have kids we'll probably want to have our luggage with us in the Hyatt room)

Does anyone know what time the DME starts in the morning? Does it have to correspond with the earliest flight that gets in?

DME is a 24/7 operation. So yes, there won't be buses leaving the airport before the first flights arrive.

There's truly no need to have to research flights and pick one and tell a white lie to Disney. Call DME directly at 866-599-0951 and tell them exactly what you want to do. They'll be able to hook you up.

Thanks CleveRocks - I called that number and according to the CM I spoke with, it's not a problem to show up early in the AM at the DME from the Hyatt above.

Absolutely understood! What CleveRocks means is, the Hyatt's Bell Staff will pick up your luggage from your Hyatt room the morning of your departure and transport it to the DME sorting center for you :)
