DME luggage question

So, the DME info says that if your flight arrives before 10pm they can grab your luggage. Now, here's the real question.

Our flight lands at 9:45. Should we grab our luggage? We would rather not, as we'll have kids with us, and it would be less to haul through the airport. However, Will it arrive at our room at 2am? We can pack pajamas in our carry-ons...but...

anyone have experience with this/thoughts? :confused3

My thoughts would be that if there was a delay for some reason you wouldn't get your luggage until the next day or at a reasonable time. If you pack enough in carry-ons that you could live without it if it didn't arrive that night, then ok. If you need your things I would just go ahead and get luggage at claims and not use the luggage tags.

If it was me, I would grab it myself. I wouldn't want to be woken at 2am for the delivery so would want them to hold it til the morning. But then if I was at a park the entire next day, what would happen if the luggage did not make it to my room and I don't know that until 11pm when I got back from the park? Then I lost another day with no luggage. I am too paranoid LOL. But that is just me.

Tag your luggage. Plan for it to be DME-transported. If you arrive on time, great. If your flight ends up being late, you know to pick it up yourself (to prevent it from spending the night in the Unclaimed Luggage office until DME CMs claim it in the morning).

I would get it myself. In fact, I would plan on getting my bags myself if I landed later than 7pm. Yes, it's a pain to drag the bags around but you will be able to get settled in for the night vs worrying about where the bags are, or having to get them early in the morning.

Or flight would be arriving at 840am, would it be better to get our luggage or let DME handle it?

We always get our own luggage no matter when we arrive. I would rather know my luggage arrived with me, and if it didn't deal with the airline then and there, then have it not arrive and me not find out for many hours.

I have had too many non-Disney trips where my luggage takes a little side trip of its own to be willing to do otherwise.

You need to resolve the baggage issue as soon as possible. If you chose to have Magical Express bags held until the next morning rather than get delivery during the wee hours (or if the resort bell services closes down in the wee hours) then you must receive your bags the next morning before heading off to the parks.

Otherwise your baggage claim rights in the event of loss are abridged even if you did ride the DME bus.

It's a moot point for us on our next trip, since we're staying at the MCO Hilton our first night in Orlando, but I'll never use the luggage service with MDE again. We had two pretty rotten experiences two years in a row, so I'd rather just lug my luggage with us and not have to worry about when it's finally going to arrive in our room. It's worth paying a porter if you don't want to get it all through the airport yourself.
