DME and checked bags

Not sure if this is where this post belongs but........Leaving for Disney in two days. Just booked DME over the weekend! Obviously, not enough time to get our yellow luggage tags. MS said I can still have DME transport our checked bags. We just have to arrange it with the Welcome desk and give them our checked bag slip before we board the bus. MS said it will take a little longer to get our bags but it can be done. Has anyone had experience with this? I'm worried there will be a greater chance of our luggage being lost.

I can't speak from personal experience but I'm sure it would be just fine. We booked late on a past trip, no yellow tags... we just picked up our own bags at the baggage carousel & took them with us on the Magical Express.

Actually I think there is a lower chance of your bags being lost. All you're doing is getting them yourself from bag claim, and then taking them with you to the resort bus, just as you would retrieve them and bring them along after any other flight.

In essence, you lose the automatic "bags from plane to room" feature if you don't have the yellow tags. But you gain confirming that they all arrived with you on the plane, and also you personally bring them to the bus and get them off the bus at your resort. Thus since you know what all bags are yours, and bring them along with you, there's less chance of a bag getting misdirected to the wrong room or resort by the automatic yellow tag service.

We had a similar but different situation, we only had tags for 1/2 our bags due to an oversight by some big dummy who will referred to as me.

We were told the same thing and received our 1st set of bags about 2 hours after arriving. The 2nd set came in the middle of the night. (We had a late arrival.)

So they all got there. When you are on the way to board the bus, just before you get to the bus there is a CM making sure you have boarding passes. There is a desk there where you will have to give them your luggage tickets and they will take care of it.

With that being said I would still encourage you to have 1 change of clothes and any essentials in a carryon. Worst case scenario with the free laundry you can do a load in a pinch and be set.

Thanks for the info! Yes, I'm still taking a carry-on with me. Actually, my "essentials" will be in the checked bag (our wine)! Hahaha We don't usually check a bag, just take carry-ons and then have food and drink delivered to our villa. This trip it's just me and my DD so we don't need as much. We arrive around 3PM and didn't want to "waste" time going to baggage claim and picking up our bag. But we don't want to lose our luggage either.

Incidentally, I don't remember where baggage claim is in relation to DME because we haven't used it in years! We will be coming in on a direct flight on Frontier from PA. I guess once we get there I can make my decision as well if it's too far and time consuming to deal with. Even though we travel to Disney at least twice a year, we are so anxious to get to our villa, we can't get through the airport fast enough. We don't seem to relax until we get to our room.

Frontier uses Terminal B. Baggage Claim is on Level 2.

DME is located at Level 1, Terminal B.

In that case I would be worried. If it were me I would grab them myself and take them to the DME if they weren't yellow tagged. YMMV. Good luck.

What they described is part of heir protocol. It's even described on the DME page on disneyworld.com. It will be fine.

If you have the yellow tags then bags are picked up from behind the scenes. Without those, the bags make it to the carousel and are then snagged by DME employees once they get the info from you. They end up in the same place.

This isn't a one-off exception they are making; it's an established procedure. I wouldn't worry.
