DLR Withdrawal: now what?

I know the simplest answer is to start planning our next trip, but DH did not enjoy himself and I promised him we would do something he likes for our family vacation next year (probably will involve fishing or golfing, sigh). So if I am a very good wife, I hope to convince him to go back to DLR in 2013. Do I hang out here pitifully for the next 2 years and just live vicariously through others? Do I go ahead and start planning for 2013? Can I book a HoJo Kids Suite this early? Can I figure out how DVC points work and how much it would cost for a possible stay at GCV (if they have suites, which I haven't figured out yet despite reading some of that gigantic GCH thread)? I saw something about one bedroom villas and studios, but didn't find room layouts.

I thought about it, but I can't go solo to DLR as our girls are too young for me to leave them at home with DH for several days and if I brought them, then there's no way for me to ride the E-ticket rides even if I let them nap in a stroller!

So wise DISBoarders, how do you survive a 2 year DLR drought?

What did he not enjoy about the last trip? Is it anything you can change to make it better the next time?

We had a long drought when the boys were little. I just didn't want to take two toddlers all that way and deal with diapers and strollers. When the boys were two, my parents watched them and DH and I went by ourselves. We didn't go back until they were 6 and we brought them with us this time. It is just hard to do big vacations like that with small children.

In the meantime you could shop at the Disney Store online. :) They often have deals like clearance sales or free shipping and they offer some park merchandise. Maybe find a few things to ask for for your birthday or something.

It has been 2 years for me and it will be another year or 2 before I get to go again. For me just coming on the boards and knowing I am not alone helps alot. I do plan trips constantly and dream about "making it work." Happy planning! :flower3:

I never get to go to DL again. My solution for myself: get Disney Tattoos. Just got my 2nd, and going......

Skiingfast: that's a great idea to go to WDW and send him off. That way he is till around to help at night!

Pinkbudgie: DH hates crowds, lines, and roller coasters, so there is nothing about DLR that appeals to him. He gave in and agreed to the trip after DD5 asked repeatedly and I gently nudged. We even went in September when crowds are supposed to be much lighter to try and minimize his aggravation. He still grumbled to me (at night when DDs weren't within earshot). Sigh. I don't think he will ever be a DLR fan so I'll be lucky if I can even convince him to go every 2 years. I've been hinting about trying Aulani and he said, "H--- no!". If we go to Hawaii, it will be to Maui, not Oahu.

Yes, I think I will have to just start planning and have fun vicariously through others! No tattoos for me, though. ;)

Oh, that's too bad. I can't think of a solution to those things either. I like Skiing's idea about WDW. Maybe you could talk him into that in a few years. Hanging out at the resorts is supposed to be very nice too. Good luck!

I just wanted to let you know that I can totally empathize with your blues. Everytime we leave DL I have this terrible feeling that I will never be back again. Luckily for me my DH will give in to my DL need about every 18 months. My sister though is another story. We went once at Christmas when we were in our teens and it was so busy that she swears she will never go again. I have tried everything to try and convince her that it will be different but she just won't give in.
Give it some time and every once in a while remind him of a happy memory from DL (I'm sure there has to be somthing that made him smile).

Sounds like a pretty tough sitch to be in. One solution is I am available to assist with babysitting, I love DL and can travel freely. :)
