We are FINALLY buying our annual passes (yay!), since we live in San Diego and visit 5 or 6 times a year it is definitely worth it. I'm curious about just coming up for a Friday or Saturday evening - anyone have any thoughts about crowds? We would like to be able to go on some rides but mostly just enjoy being in the park. I know the mantra is come early for rope drop, but since we come so often we aren't on a mission to go on every single ride.

Thanks, I just joined the boards after being a long-time lurker!

Things will definitely be crowded, but if you just want to watch Fantasmic! or fireworks and maybe do a few rides, you'll be fine.

We arrived at 8 PM on a very busy night in June 2009…waited for fireworks (which got canceled mid-show). Then we booked it to Fantasmic! and got a view right on the water (one of my favorite times watching it!). We then went on It's a Small World, went over to Finding Nemo (but that was closed), rode Star Tours (not a viable choice for 2011, LOL), then Mr. Toad, and finally stopped off on Main Street and got some pressed coins. I felt like we'd had a pretty good day, though we had 3.5 more days ahead to look forward to.... :)

We do the opposite. Get there early, ride a lot, then enjoy the park. We can easily ride all of the rides we want to by noon and then just relax the rest of day. My wife is an early to bed-early to rise person so she starts to poop out around 5. I do miss the park at night though doing this.

We're in SD too and go up for evenings. We just went last Sunday night for dinner and to ride a few rides. It was so nice! We got there at 4 and stayed until closing. After fireworks, the crowd thinned out nicely. We ate at Plaza Inn and rode maybe 10 rides, including Matterhorn back to back. We just stayed in DL this time and didn't venture over to DCA. My kids have already asked today if we can go tonight! LOL!! Maybe going up again next weekend to hang out with friends for an evening. We just love it there!
