First, thank you Dis Board peeps for pre-planning help for my return trip to DLR in 8 years, lots of changes. Stayed at DLH myself and 2 sons. First impression, DLH shrunk. The hotel sign seems less significant and I understand the need for parking security but it's less of a dramatic entrance IMHO. The staff and accommodations were great. On my Saturday departure, the CM Bell Service said the Uber pick up is now located in temporary parking vs drop off area. He said this was new. This might help if you are looking for your driver.
Had a 5 Day pass and SWEG reservations Monday. With Dis info we were able to get into the Cantina no problem. We did the ride 4xs stand by and single rider. Yes my two sons did get Pilot as Single Rider. We also got engineer and gunner and pilot standby. As posted, I think it's random how the cards are given out.
We did the Carnation Parade Package and I thought it was worth it. They offered choice of pork chop, pasta or salad. It was good enough. The reserved area is on the ground in front of Walt and Mickey statue dead center looking down main street. What a view! There is a tree that will provide shade on hot days but it's back about 5 feet. The sun was out but it wasn't hot so we sat front and center. There was plenty of space to spread out. Seems like a 15 x 15 foot reserved area. There was a CM that kept an eye on the space and moved those that crept in without paying for the package out. This was managed up until the first part of the parade hit the area. Then the CM was gone and there were jumpers. Mostly parents pushing their kids over the rope and the poor kids looking confused and lost but quickly appreciating the parade. However, one woman who I swear knew exactly what she was doing came and squatted down with her kid dead center right after the CM left.
Blue Bayou Fantasmic Package was completely worth it. The meal was good and the view was exceptional! I had 7:30 Dinner reservations for the first show the CM realized this and pushed our order through and we made it by 8:30 and we sat back about 4 rows with the cushions provided. That's a nice touch. We had enough space to lean back and or put 1 leg out to stretch.
Frozen Meal Package. The Carthay Circle was amazing. What a glamorous Hollywood touch. Great drinks and really good food. To get to reserved seating you lined up full sun in an alley near the Red Food Cart (studio catering) on the side of the theater. I started to get warm about 20 min into the wait but fortunately we were brought in. You can pick your spot anywhere you want to sit in the lower level.
WOC Dessert Package. We had table 15 and we were happy with the view. They serve a blue cocktail punch now. Not sure what was in it. They also offered wine. Might have been a better option. There is a bread basket and the desert plate comes with cheese, grapes and lots of desserts. They give you a to go box for left overs and while we took the desserts we actually never ate much. There was a chocolate brownie cake, cheesecake, a fruit filled sugar cookie and a coconut macaroon.
We had a great time. The choice to add on packages is really a personal choice but I'm glad I splurged.
