DLR trip add-ons ?

We are looking to go to DLR next year before Christmas. MIL really wants to also take the kids to Knott's Berry (well, Merry then) Farm at the end of our trip. Even though I spent over 15 years in SoCal, I never went to KBF and quite frankly, never missed it. I also think that will be a big let-down at the end of the trip, although easier to avoid the Friday crowds. My mom said she didn't think there was that much in KBF (having been before) and thought LegoLand might be a bigger hit with the kids who will be 6.5 and 4.5 when we go.

Do you think KBF or Legoland would be better for the kids? We'll have my ILs' car so driving isn't an issue.

Also, WHEN during the trip would you go? I was planning originally on driving to Anaheim on Sunday, hitting DTD and then hitting DLR M-Th. MIL would put KBF on Friday. We could break it up and do KBF on Wednesday or Monday. Or I could instead fly in to the ILs' in Palm Springs area and immediately turn around and drive to Anaheim on Saturday and hit KBF or Legoland on Sunday. What would you recommend? TIA!

Hey there...

Last year did Lego land with a 6yr old boy and a 9 yr old girl...

Although they had fun.. they were not really into Lego and had an ok time.. they were happy to play in the build your own race shop .. they enjoyed going on the boat and looking at the Lego buildings , and they had a so so time going on some of the rides..
The issues we encountered were.. they rides where too young for them..
The lines were very long. no fast passes here, and with limited time and 1 day it was hard to do everything.. they of course liked the shop lol

We went to Knottsberry farm this year and added a 14 yr old girl and the kids had a blast.

The older kids said the rides that they could go on were even better than in DL, more scary and faster etc... the lines however were murder....

In KBF you can go on a train round the park.. a stage coach. there is a whole section for the younger crowd.. my now 7yr old had a blast going on ALL the rides.. and even found the older one to drag on .. and they too enjoyed them even after the "adult " rides they went on..

There is are some good shops.. a carnival section with typical carnie games etc.. and a wonderful stage show where the kids had a blast laughing at the actors falling off the stage and getting the audience wet..


We are planing on going back to DL next Feb and the kids are already telling us what KBF rides they will be going on... mind you we are just doing DL.

You know your kids.. if they are INTO Lego then yes do it.. but if they are not so into then I would do Knotts anyday.. IMO..

In KBF you can go on a train round the park.. a stage coach. there is a whole section for the younger crowd.. my now 7yr old had a blast going on ALL the rides.. and even found the older one to drag on .. and they too enjoyed them even after the "adult " rides they went on..

You know your kids.. if they are INTO Lego then yes do it.. but if they are not so into then I would do Knotts anyday.. IMO..

Thank you! My kids are not into legos at all right now and I have to say KBF is appealing just from its location alone so that seems to settle that unless DS develops a sudden and deep love for all things lego.

If they aren't into lego then I definitely agree Knotts is the way to go. Have a great trip with the family!

If at all possible do the other parks at the beginning of your trip rather than the end. I've done Magic Mountain and Knotts at the end of the trip and at the beginning. When I go at the beginning, I don't notice the lack of cheerfulness from the employees or that the wastebins are full or that there's leaves all over the ground (or worse). When I go at the end of the trip, I keep thinking "man this is just not as clean/happy/polished as Disney". My $0.02, FWIW.

Knotts is not very fun for little kids. Most of the rides are for big kids roller coaster style. We went with my boys 5 and 7 and the 5 yo had lesser time. He kept getting le out while dh and 7yo had fun.

They LOVED legoland later on the same trip. LOVED it.

And btw we did. Knotts first, Disney second and then a few days break and then Legoland which also has a fun aquarium.

I agree. DBF and I went to Knotts and we were comparing everything to DL. How the employees didn't seem as enthusiastic, how the lines were so long, how everything seemed gloom. We left after half a day because it was so hot and so depressing. We went home and bought tickets to go to DL the next day and had an even better time than we normally do.

I agree. I have two girls: 7 and 3; they can't do much at KBF. They love legoland, though. Christmas is a different story. Usually, KBF has some Christmas crafts or specials going. Also, Legoland is usually closed 1 or 2 days a week. (I don't remember which day - you'd have to check their website.) But keep that in mind as you make your plans.
