DLR Half Marathon 2010

I found last years map here

I don't know about hills, I will ask my friend who lives in LA and has run it. I know he said the 5k course was flat.

Thank you. That route has a lot of time in the parks and it goes through the stadium, so I hope it's the same!

I know Harbor seems pretty flat, but I'm not familiar with most of the other streets. I have started training (outside) but we have no hills around here. I may need to start training indoors though, because the air quality is questionable and may be for awhile. :sad1:

The 5K and 1/2 are flat. You run in the LA basin. If you ran to the mountains surrounding, then you would have to worry!

Thank you!

In the Princess, there were just a few little ones, like the underpass near the MK and the ramps for the highway. Otherwise it was mostly flat aside from a few really gradual hills. That was nice; I could handle that! :lmao:

That's pretty much all you have to worry about at DL. The section by Splash Mountain, one overpass and a slight elevation increase in the Honda Center parking lot, which looks a whle lot worse that it is.

I just booked my hotel for the race. Went through Priceline and got the Red Lion for $70 per night. I'm not sure where the race starts so I don't know if it's a far walk to the start. Maybe they will have the ART avaliable from the Red Lion?

From the map it looks like the race starts and finishes near the Disneyland Hotel (another reason why I am glad we are staying there!)

The race does start and finish near the DL Hotel. We've stayed at the DL hotel the last 2 years and it has been great! Not like the princess 1/2 where you have to get up 4 hours before the run starts! The last .1 mile runs right by the DL Hotel. We'll be at the DL Hotel again this year!

If you can, the DLH is the best place to stay! You can practically roll out of bed and get to the start! The first year I did it, we woke up at 5am for the 6am start!

Now thats what I like!!! I don't have to get up at 3am to schlep to the start!!
And I get back right after to hit the shower.

What I like about DL is that there are lots of less expensive hotel choices within walking distance of the start line. At WDW, you almost need to stay on property. If you want to sleep in a little longer at WDW you need to stay at one of the monorail resorts and that can be a bit expensive. :guilty:

Question for Coast to Coasters: Do you take your medal from WDW with you so that you can have pictures taken with all 3 medals? Is that crazy? Just wondering since we are travelling light, but I really want a pic of me at DL with all 3 medals.

Yes. I was one of the dorks that did and it was awesome. Leave it in bag check then go back to the asi peeps to get a photo.

ok so here is another question: we are flying from NY to CA, taking only carryons. Our friends live in LA and are running with us. Would it just be easier to borrow one of their medals (we all ran the 1/2 at WDW) for the photos, and not have to worry about taking mine along? Or am I just being a total uberdork?

ETA: I supposed getting a group photo of the 5 of us with all our medals would be cool, so I guess I should just take mine with me?

Veronica, I'd take your own medal. Your friends might not want to bring their medals or like you said, they might want group pics with the medals. When I did this race two years ago, I saw someone with the Donald, Mickey, Goofy, Castle & C2C medal while in the DL park. Talk about a lot of clanging going on! :teeth:

As for being dorky? No way! You earned/will earn those medals. I think having a picture made with all three will be cool! And, as you said, it will be especially cool if all five of you do it. :thumbsup2

Since things are getting closer, does someone want to start an "Official 2010Disneyland Half Marathon" thread. Keep track of who is going and where people are staying and such? Just a thought.

Tracy

We seem to have multiple DL threads around, but I can try to troll through the various threads and pull together a "Roster/Logistics" thread.

Maura

I'm off from work this summer so I thought I would go ahead and start an official list and then I came back here to let you guys know about it. However, I just read Maura's reply a little more thoroughly and saw that she was going to do so. Sorry, Maura, I can delete my thread. I just read in haste and thought you were agreeing with Tracy. That's what I get for talking on the phone and reading the posts at the same time. :headache:

Maura: I didn't see and Official 2010 DL thread for list of people going and all that so that is why I suggested one. If you find one let us know or if not we can use Susie's one!.

Thanks

Susie Whoops! I posted to your thread before reading this---so I don't know if you can delete it.

Tracy I could have sworn there was another thread, but I can't find the other one!

Oh well, we'll figure it out!

Maura

I just found Padstacks thread - about half-way down. I missed it last night, too! ??? That might be a good thread to list everyone. I just changed the title of my thread. I'll go ahead and gather some names and if Padstack or the other poster wants to keep up with the list, I can bow out. I certainly don't want to step on any toes. I don't know how I missed that thread last night but I did. :headache:
