DLR Discounts: Senior vs. AP

Hi folks! This is my first post in this forum, if I'm recalling correctly. I read pages one through six or seven of the posts here last night and have looked through the first page, and I hope I am not repeating anything that has already been asked. Forgive me if I am!

My family and I are in the very early stages of planning a trip to the Disneyland Resort this fall. We aren't sure when we want to go but the earliest would be mid-September. Someone has a birthday! Now, my parents are both 60+, and they would be going.

We would be purchasing Deluxe Annual Passports for admission.

Now, our quandry is this. We would be staying on property, probably at the Disneyland Hotel. I read a few times here last night that the Senior Discount is 30% on rooms, when available. Is that better, worse, same as the AP Holder discount? We are trying to figure out if we should buy one of our passes online earlier than the others in order to get a possible AP discount. I know they aren't guaranteed but the only way to really find out if there is one for sure is to give up your AP number to the reservations cm on the phone...right? Other than checking here to see if anyone posts about AP discounts being released? I hope I'm making sense.

I am thinking that it would be better to book the room with the senior discount. Am I right?

Also, are there any other benefits that my parents could get, given their senior status? I just read a post that said there weren't others, but I thought I would ask to make sure.

I believe the Senior Discount is better than the AP one. Ap discounts are 10%, the same as AAA. My aunt got a senior discount at the DLH for later this month I want to say it was at least 20%. I would call the hotel directly and ask them what they are offering for your dates. I don't think you have to have an actual AP to get the discount until you check in. But I could be wrong, its never worked for me to get an AP discount greater than 10%, I generally would just book my room at the DLH through Expedia. Their rates were usually the same as an AP/AAA discount and I used them enough to always have discount vouchers so that helped even more.

I would call the hotel, see what they offer you. But first I would check Expedia to see what their rates are. Then you have something to compare. I am betting the senior will be deeper of a discount than the AP one.


And there are no senior discounts offered on tickets or meals. You do get some nice 10% discounts on meals with that Deluxe AP. And some places, liek Goofy's also give an AAA discount (if you decide not to get AP's). Always ask, they don't go out of their way to advertise what discounts they give! Good luck. And I would book soon, the onsite hotels sell out most of the time. I just saw people complaining about the high rates at the onsite hotels for some of the weekends in October.

Out of curiosity... how old (or young ) does one have to be to receive a Senior Discount at a DLR hotel?

just to let you know--we are going 9/23-9/27. my mom is 60 and going with, so she qualifies for the senior discount. in booking the room, we found out the senior discount is 35%. awesome!!!
